Let's get right on down to it because I'm writing most of this as it comes to mind.

So, first bit of news I want to cover is the code work being done. I have for you a good old image of a fully working HUD that compares to most early Half-Life photos I've seen.

The battery draws from bottom to top. Dont yell at me until you find proof it goes left to right or whatever.

I first attempted this feat back in May at the request of Zaxon and Harron. I looked at the code for the battery and tried to move it above the health. I broke it completely and that's about as far as it ever got. I then went to a few people looking for assistance. No one really could lend me a hand so I just gave up on it until about 2 days ago when I attempted it again. It was still a pain to do when you only have basic C++ knowledge, but it can be done!

Weapons, and Zombie Models

Just like the HUD, this was an ongoing event for a while. The weapons weren't that bad. Zaxon rigged a set of weapons to bare hands, then recently did it to the gloved hev. I don't believe I did much besides set up a few animations for the glock and shotgun. We've decided to use the gloved hev with gloves for any main releases, but Zaxon wants to release other packs later on. So don't worry if you thought you couldn't run around Black Mesa with bare hands flaying around!

We also recently got a hold of a zombie model kindly sent from Sappy. It was unrigged, and untextured, but the mesh was pretty damn good. Far better than another mesh we had that resembled a broken down car. Zaxon took care of rigging it.

I brought up the idea on making a Barney zombie since we can switch out models thanks to SoHL. Zaxon whipped up the model, and Harron provided the textures. Everything turned out excellent!

Everything Else!

I skipped mapping since I'm doing 90% of that, and I already kind of self promoted myself on the HUD, and none of what you are seeing, and will be seeing would of been possible without the team, and the brilliant minds helping us along the way! I want to say if anyone wants to help the project out in some way, give us a pm here on Mod DB. I hope to show some more updates on mapping, NPC's in the upcoming weeks. I also want to put out a game play video sometime as well. This all depends on work, college, and also just wanting to go hang out with friends, and not sit behind a computer most of the day.

I don't really have more to say at this point. If anything comes to mind that I forgotten, Ill post a small edit to this.

Stay Shafty!

I agree with everything - CS = Sh*t. How the hell do people get away with saying CS is the most played mod ever? One time maybe, but not now. The teamplay idea has gone, and now it's just plain DM style with a few bonus points available. Now CS is full of llamas who snipe you (when you're on their teams) 'cos they pay no attention to the player info thing. They when they get sniped - they complain! If I must play CS it's gotta be against some bots, or with some bots.

Now, TFC, that's a different matter. You still get the llamas, but the realistic damage crap isn't there killing you when you fall off a step. People work as a team better.

And where the hell's TF2? Everybody plays DoD since it's more or less the same idea, but better.

Enough whinin' from me. HL is still a bloody good game...

Half Life rocks hey ??

do you play DM, do you play the SP, I dont think so.

Only things that keep HL alive is the mods, and they started cos of the popularity of CS, I sold HL and 5 days l8r found out about CS at a LAN. Played it that night, next day got HL again, then a few weeks l8r bought the pack with HL OF and TFC.

Yes, FLF, DOD and the rest are good, they might have been released without CS, but for CS making the HL community jumpy again woulda gave them extra coverage aswell.

If anything, CS killed most existing good mods in some way. Take for example TFC. Valve used to give us TFC'ers a new level every few updates. The last new level we got from Valve was over a year ago and it, actually they, were crappy themed levels. I'm taking a wild guess that the only reason TFC isn't being supported much by Valve except for bugs is because they are too busy sitting back and earning money on CS retail and giving those 12 year olds some new things. Also, the only new things TFC gets are based on CS new features, such as the new spec. Infact when TFC first got that new spec 2 updates ago, it was glitchy as hell. That's what I mean when CS killed other mods. I also blame CS on the further delay of TF2. Why? Because smart game developers don't release a new game when they already have 1 money maker out.

I am 100% with you. CS had a popular run for some time but DoD is without a doubt one of the most played mods made without commerical interests at heart (well at least initally) and that is just one of the many mods.

Plus the engine is just so versitile - Natural Selection, Buzzybots, HL Rally are just a few mods which are testimony to that...

Hunter you make me sick. HL was doing fine and always would be without the help of C.S. It's incredibly modability allows for hundreds of different modmakers to try out their ideas easier than any other game.

Great mods such as Day of Defeat, Global Warfare, SvenCoop and ofcourse TeamFortress Classic would be so more enjoyable if Counter-Strike would f**k off and give them some space.

The game engine is versitile and will work on all systems, and has some nifty particle, lighting effects considering its 4years old.
