Nosferatu (oof, what a pain it was):
1. About the mod
This is my second mod, the first one was Worst Holiday. I was working on one more mod, but my HDD broke, so I gave up. And since there's not too many vampire-themed mods for Half-Life, I decided to make one. I know that my mod is short, linear and maybe even bad. Sadly, I didn't manage to make it longer and add a few things (like sucking blood instead of picking up medkits). Please don't cheat. If you are stuck, see the walkthrough instead. It is best to avoid noclip because it might cause problems with event triggers etc.
2. Story
Vampires and humans some time ago agreed they woudn't attack each other. Humans gave vampires some of their cities. Violation of this truce would have catastrophic consequences and one side would end up extinct. Now that vampires couldn't drink human blood, humans were at least sending them animals and blood from corpses. But it was more than obvious that there would be rebels on both sides. These rebels always ended up punished by their side or the other side, as the truce was a priority. Every group of rebels had its own reasons to attack. Vampire rebels were complaining about animal blood and human rebels were trying to convince everyone that vampires weren't to be trusted and that they were planning a huge attack on humanity. Meanwhile somebody who wasn't supposed to know heard about the conflicts. A mysterious man who cooperated with unknown alien creatures. In order to have an easier way to take over Earth he and alien creatures created an artifact capable of destroying both vampires and humans once and for all. He immediately took occasion to use rebels to activate the artifact in order to destroy their enemies. Of course, the artifact also had a dark side. A curse would lie upon the race which used it. But rebels didn't know about this. There was a way to destroy the artifact and then the chance of peace would be greater. You joined rebels but your goal is different from theirs. You don't want to use the artifact, you want to destroy it, cause you've got a feeling something's wrong here. And, as it usually is, nobody believes you.
3. Bugs
Beside some design flaws there are few bugs:
- scientist dragged into vent vanishes instead of gibbing
- mod may not be compatible with Steam
- camera doesn't work the way it is supposed to
- fragments of explosive crates after explosion cover the whole map
- mod may crash during loading
- game end doesn't work, mod has to be quit manually
- music is mono
- fog may not work
It is important to play on OpenGL in order to avoid more problems.
