Made by Gearbox Software and originally released in 2001 as an add-on to Half-Life, Blue Shift is a return to the Black Mesa Research Facility in which you play as Barney Calhoun, the security guard sidekick who helped Gordon out of so many sticky situations.

It was a great storyline, but didn't add any new gameplay or weapons, but i guess it did come with the hd pack but it isn't that good.

ok game really.
it is enjoyable but not that kind of game you would play constantly.

you kill women spy's at one point of the game(who will try to kill you).
it is way to short.

A very short but fun game good to see Blackmesa through the eyes of someone other than Gordon Freeman lacks a bit of content but all in all a very fun game.

Otherwise very good, but Blue Shift is just too short; it took me about 2 hours to complete it.

They could have done better, for me I like it but it's my least favorite of of the Goldsource HL's.

Half Life Blue shift is agreat installment for Half life. In 2001 this mod/game by Gearbox came with a hd pack for all half life mods and games. Ok, enough talking about hd packs and stuff. So in this Half life game you play as Barney Calhoun and well the same thing that happens in Black Mesa. a huge accident that makes a portal to another planet Called Xen and you fight the HECU army and aliens. Well HL Blue shift has no ending boss or gman ending. Its just a car scene. Well, although it was great it lagged most of the time alot of times loading screens would stay there and I had to restart my laptop too many times. ( That was probaly my pc or steam.) This one was really short. But it was still great I'm giving it a 9/10 !

To me, Blue-Shift is the best expansion for Half-Life 1. It's long enough to be called an expansion, but not too long to regret spending time with it. Atmosphere is good, and the little tie-in with the Freeman branch is lovely. It is not as maddeningly hard as its prequels, which is a huge plus in my book (I dislike reloading the same save game 15 times just to survive the next fight ahead of me, only to reload 5 more times to survive with a high enough health to make the next challenge survivable.)

Unfortunately, the plot does not allow Barney (the player character) to access the higher-end weapons. While this makes the experience the same as the early levels of the old Half-Life, I would love to play through the Xen and the power plant levels with a high-end weapon. Since Blue-Shift is relatively easy, these weapons would probably be too powerful, but still, it would be cool to fool around with them.
