This is NOT a fake! In fact, in the final release
of Half-Life 2, if I remember correctly, you can hear
a tiny segment of the song at around the time when Gordon
receives the news that Eli Vance has been captured and is sent to Nova Prospekt.
Also, you can hear it after Lazlo dies in Sandtraps.

I thought the Path of the Borealis was an official song by Valve done for the HL2 beta, but apparently not.

It's an old song that got cut from the game. In no way is it "fake".
I love how different the leak soundtrack (which having found this page I'm listening to now) is to what was eventually released, and especially the use of piano. It's another window to the alternate HL2 that you can see images from in Raising the Bar.
