Gordon Freeman is back! Half-Life 2 picks up some time after the original Half-Life left off, with Gordon Freeman working for the G-Man. Along with scientist Eli Vance and his daughter Alyx, your mission is to... well, that would be telling.

  • Barney is back, and all the voice actors from the original Half-Life are reprising their roles. Also returning is Half-Life's original writer, Marc Laidlaw.

  • While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to scale and work on lower-end machines. A 700mHz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2gHz with the latest video card is recommended to free up resources for those memory-hogging textures.

  • Alyx is not a playable character. You're still Gordon Freeman, and Gordon doesn't talk. Want him to? Make a mod!

  • Scripted sequences are much further apart than in Half-Life, with new levels of interactivity.

  • New Havok-based physics apply to every object in the game.

  • A complete SDK - including a new version of Hammer, face poser tools and more - is available through Steam free of charge.

About

City 7: Toronto Conflict is an action packed single-player Half-Life 2 mod with a variety of unique levels and gameplay. Explore what has become of City 7 in areas like Dundas square, Eaton Center, Mel Lastman square, St. Michael's Hospital and TTC system under the Combine rule. This version features Gordon Freeman as the main character, stuck in Toronto due to a teleporting accident in Kleiner's lab. Try to escape this war torn city by finding any type of teleporting technology and send him back to City 17.

It is believed that the Combine have created multiple citadels around the globe and human communication in the Americas has been cut off for years. However, Dr. Kleiner has just established communication with an old collegue residing in Toronto, Canada, now known as City 7. These communications lead to questions: What have the combine done with the CN tower (a communication tower in core of Toronto)? Was it destroyed or rebuilt? Did the CN tower serve a purpose during the alien invasion? Is there a rebel force in Toronto, and who will lead them?

I have a question about Smod, I know that you have to have HL2 to play Smod, but what about the Smod-mods? like the Break Out one, do you have to have HL2 to play that mod too? because for most (or all) mods just need a source game, in my case, I have CSS, a little answer would be nice =)

That depends, because each mod uses a Steam app id to tell which set of GCFs to mount, look in gameinfo.txt to see which Source engine game is used by the mods you download.

SteamAppId 220 is Half Life 2.
380 is Episode 1
420 is Episode 2
215 is the Source SDK base(This should come with CS:S and every other Source game, most Source mods use this)
218 is the Orange Box SDK Base.(Can be installed if you have the Orange Box games, some of the more recent mods are using it.)
240 is Counter Strike: Source.
440 is Team Fortress 2

This isn't all of them, but the Valve developer wiki has the whole list.

Half-Life 2 Is one of the best things that ever happened on the face of this earth. Long live Half-Life 2, and may Valve "do their worst" in their efforts to hopefully make Episode 3 even half as good as the almighty king of videogames for years to come, Half-Life 2.
