A terminal-based hacking game, following the story of a recently deceased hacker Bit, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports. LAN Multiplayer allows you to go head to head hacking competitively, to compromise the other's computer first.

Hacknet v1.23 (Current Version)

Development News

Hacknet is back in full development - in fact is has been for a long time now! Lots of new features, new missions, new programs (new everything) are in. The story now splits into multiple paths, that are completely different. It's making development take a lot longer, but should improve the game significantly. The paths play quite differently - Hacknet watches your actions and you'll end up with a different game depending on what attitude you take towards things. It's exciting times!

It detects outside connections to the shell computer, and lets you forkbomb them remotely if you don't want them there. It's mostly useful in multiplayer, but can be handy in a few other very select places where other hackers are involved.

Ok I only have put an hour into the game but I must say what I'm seeing is a very good Uplink succesor. I really like what your doing and hope your going to develop the game further maybe to a point where you even can put a price tag on it?
If there is one feature that I would love to see it would be to que up commands similar like uplink did it. It is a little bit frustrating to type in the command and then have to wait for the first command to finish.
The game is certainly not without its flaws but as I can see your continue to develop and it is free which I must say is very generous of you why I have to say thank you for developing such a nice free indie game in a genre that has so few games.

Brilliant game but multiplayer needs other servers, like a server browser and the overall game needs to be a touch longer, otherwise, BRILLIANT

People claiming to have gotten ftpbounce from the beginning are either lying or used the endgame cache (don't worry about it you'll get FTPbounce later) to open a port you have to use the appropriate program (for example, assuming you've been following the mission you should have SSHCrack, this only works on SSH, and you have to use this command to crack it 'exe (Relevant app) (relevant port number)' so at the moment all you should need is 'exe SSHCrack 22' (if it requires a port to be cracked, if not go straight to porthack) to open that port and then use 'exe porthack' to get into it (If it requires more ports to be open and you don't have the relevant app, leave that server to later)

the tutorual explains using "exe PortHack" as the beginner's hack, plus having things in caps is important
