If you manage to catch it before it ends, Humble Bundle is currently running a deal in partnership with Mozilla, full of games which can run directly in your browser. As a trial, we have setup a few non-indie games we have access to, too see how it would look if we did the same.
You can check them out here:
What we would like to know, is who from our community has an embedable game, and if we should add an option to embed games directly in your profile as we have done above. Please post in the comments if this interests you!
of course we want
I am not developing an embedable game but I am sure it would be very cool for those who are developing such games and it will be nice to check out the game without even leaving IndieDB.
Very cool.
I'm currently in the process of transitioning away from Unity to Cocos2d for all my future 2d personal projects (for full free cost, and to build for mobile and web without plugin).
What tech are you looking at and what tech would the source games need to be in to take advantage of this support?
Well, how do different games embed? Would we just support the HTML needed to embed, or would we host the embeddable game itself?
Would love to see hosted games, html games are not large and most the content is cached in the browser so there would not be to much load on the servers.
The play tab is cool but i feel the page needs the comments box and other links on the side, could you set to normal box with a full size option.
Really nice work so far!
Definitely. My game Space Horror is a flash web game and it seems a little strange and suspicious to have an anonymous link to the website... So yes!
How would you like to be able to embed the game? Do you have example code / demo I can see?
I would definitely love this. Though I'd like to ask if the games are required to be ad free?
Good question and one I had't considered. I think if the ads are not intrusive, stay within the game and don't take personalized data then yes it is a possibility - as we want to be fair. Do you have a link to your game and the embeddable code so I can check it out?
I don't currently have any in-game ads as my game is hosted in GameJolt. I guess a better question to ask is if submitters are allowed to monetize in some way whether it be through in-game ads or in-app payments etc provided that certain rules are followed. Most devs would probably be more inclined to embed their games if it meant being able make a few bucks.
By the way, here's the link to my game on GameJolt:
Gamejolt.com
This is a wonderful addition - we aren't developing for browser either but I like this move. I agree with TKAzA though, the comments section needs to be there in some capacity, it would make giving feedback that much easier!
Great idea. The one thing GameJolt has been doing that I have been wishing IndieDB would pick up.
Yes, this would be awesome!
Our current game CrossCode (https://www.indiedb.com/games/crosscode) is based on HTML5 and it would be great to embed it within Indiedb.
It would also be nice to have a kind of focus/fullscreen option where the webpage content around the game is minimal/hidden and the game's iframe is expanded over almost the whole screen. CrossCode is a fast pasted game and you tend to click outside the game window by mistake quite often. That's why our input is optimized in a way that clicking outside the game screen is still detected (as long as it's inside within the web page). When the game is exactly fit within an iframe, this unfortunately doesn't work.
Well... let's just say this is a nice-to-have feature to have the perfect game experience within indiedb
Do you plan to embed at indiedb only games made with HTML5, or can it also concerns Flash and Unity3D games?
