Gnomoria is a sandbox village management game where you help lead a small group of gnomes, who have set out on their own, to thrive into a bustling kingdom! Anything you see can be broken down and rebuilt elsewhere. Craft items, build structures, set traps and dig deep underground in search of precious resources to help your gnomes survive the harsh lands. Build your kingdom and stockpile wealth to attract wandering gnomads to your cause, but be wary of also attracting enemies!

I just wanted to remind everyone that while there hasn't been any news updates here in a while, there have been updates to Gnomoria almost every week. You can always check the Gnomoria website or forums for the latest updates.

This update is the start of an overhaul of crafting and items. Overall, it won't be vastly different from what you're used to. There are around 50 new items this patch, where most of them are intermediate items used to craft workshops or finished goods. Many recipes have had their ingredient quantities reduced but might require more steps to craft from scratch. Job completion times have also been increased across the board.

There is also a stricter progression of workshops now. In order to build a workshop, many require a specific item that is crafted in a different workshop. The first workshop that can be built is a Crude Workbench. This workshop works slower than others but doesn't craft anything that can't be crafted somewhere else. Once other workshops have been built, the Crude Workbench is safe to deconstruct.

When loading old save games, some jobs that are no longer valid will be cancelled. After loading a game, it would be a good idea to just check your workshops to see where you might need to recreate jobs. However, to get the full experience of the changes, I recommend starting a new game with this update.

With an update like this, I'll be closely watching everyone's feedback and expect to make some adjustments. Some things might be much harder or easier now and I'll try to work out the kinks as quick as I can.

How is this not a ripoff of Dwarf Fortress?

The simple answer? Because it's not a ripoff. It doesn't look like DF graphically - if you saw screenshots of the two side-by-side you would never mistake Gnomoria for DF. And Gnomoria doesn't use any code from DF.

I play both Dwarf Fortress and Gnomoria.

Was Gnomoria inspired by DF? Sure, among other games, which the developer falt-out says on his website. All games take their inspiration from somewhere - usually other games. All games of the same genre will, by necessity, have some similarities, but the addition of isometric graphics alone makes this not a ripoff.

But, also the two games have different feels. Gnomoria is more focused, DF more open. They play differently enough that sometimes I want to play one, sometimes the other.

theres stonesense for isometic graphics, though its seemed to have copied the combat. seeing all the Professions makes it look like a clone at least in the sense of what its taken from DF.
Wouldn't know what its taken from the other games he said he drew inpiration from.

Bought the game on steam just today and it is great. I love the fact that the game is made using XNA. I am a programmer too and I am making a game using XNA Framework in my spare time. So the game is extra fun for me.

I played this a LOT about 6-8 months ago, then tapered off to play some other games. I come back to it and MAN it's like a whole new game. Daunting, it is. Glad to see you do so much work on it (that's fricking AWESOME that you care so much for this wonderful game), but it's so detailed, so in-depth, so DEEP, that's it's paralyzing trying to figure out what to do without doing something wrong at the very beginning that destroys you later in the game because you forgot it.

Gasp :) . Great game! I've been with it since... well, way back when. Before you came to Desura? Can't be. Foggy memory.

It would be really awesome if the autoqueueing of jobs would take into account if there are multiple workshops of the same type (maybe that's already the case, the next point will hopefully explain what I mean). Also, it would be awesome if the load of workshops queues with autoassigned tasks for one type of workshop would be checked at certain intervals (say once a minute, or once every day/couple of days), to see if the items in the queue can be reassigned to several workshops for load balancing.
I've built 2 workshops, and the one poor guy servicing workshop1 has a queue for a couple of years, while the workshop next to it gets 0 load.

Hello,

I noticed a bug, it's impossible to select crop to grow in underground farm.
I have wet dirt floor(digging under a lake) and it seems that's underground farm is ready to farm, but when I want to select the crop to grow the dropdown list do not open.

Hope to be helpful.

You need some mushroom seeds, which can only be bought from a merchant

The only thing you can grow in underground farms is mushrooms. You have to buy mushroom seeds from a merchant before you will see them show up in the list of crops.

For years, I've been hoping and praying that someone... ANYONE would take the concept of a Dwarf Fortress style fantasy village sim game and make it into an actual marketable-quality game. No offense to DF, of course, but it has the accessability of Mt. Everest and a Rubix Cube of a UI. Gnomoria may just be the answer to that prayer. Though the game seems to have come out of nowhere, the functionality, presentation, and potential of this one surpass any alpha I've ever played. The game itself sticks…
