Discover one of the most beautiful but also most hostile environments in the world, Africa. You are sent to this war-torn region to assassinate the Jackal, a mysterious arms dealer who has rekindled conflict between local warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives.

In order to fulfill your mission you will have to become a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state stricken with malaria, and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to make this country your home.

Play the warring factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

About Far Cry 2 - Graphical Enhancement Suite with 2 comments by Senescent on Jan 6th, 2015

After neglecting this page for quite sometime I've decided to clean everything up a bit. The biggest change is that I've moved GES to a newer version of SweetFX. This should allow it to be used on all versions of FC2. (Including the Steam Fortune Edition!) I've removed a bunch of old comments regarding technical issues as they should be fixed. Just make sure you have your game running on DirectX 9.

A common complaint about GES in the past is that the game is too dark with the mod installed. This is due to the nature of FC2 and the method I've used to create this mod. The default brightness, contrast, and gamma settings can look a bit wonky even on properly calibrated monitors. I suggest tweaking these values in-game until you achieve your desired result. Personally I only need to bump gamma up a bit and then everything looks fantastic. However, everybody's results will differ. Just experiment!

I've also re-cut the original trailer which you can view below.

I hope you enjoy the mod and your time spent in colorful Africa!

I just realized someone could make an awesome STALKER mod from this. Imagine Africa became The Zone, infested with mutants, Anomaly activity and heavy radiation ?

Ah, but you can't really mod Far Cry 2... only map with it using existing materials and objects. And even that is (more or less) limited to multiplayer games.

The douche bags at Ubisoft have again made it clear they don't give a flying **** about the communities of their games, and refuse to release the SDK. That means no mods. It’s a terrible shame. The game is definitely a work of art, and there are so many incredible mods you could make for it, but that won't happen now. This makes the game's value drop significantly in price.

Also the game tricks you into thinking that the many choices you're forced to make will affect the story. It does not affect the story or the game in any way, which really ****** me off and a lot of other players as well. This could be fixed with a mod. Oh but wait, Ubisoft won't let anyone do that. You can download cheats, trainers, some new maps... but that’s about it. Nothing worth being called a mod from what I've seen.

I had three major problems with this game. There’s no stealth system and the AI could always see me perfectly even if I was behind tons of thick jungle plants, and the weapon system is very restricting. It doesn't let you carry what you want in each slot like the first game, you have to carry certain weapons in their designated slots, which allows far less freedom of tactics and personal weapon choices like in the first Far Cry.

This is NOT Far Cry 2. Far Cry kept it simple. A stealth system that worked, intelligent AI that worked together, simple objectives, weapon slots you could use in any way you chose, beautiful scenery, fun vehicles, and a simple story that didn't pretend to be an RPG. Ubisoft totally ruined that recipe in this game.

And fixing any problem with a vehicle by tightening 1 bolt was just stupid. It’s worse than being able to fix a sentry gun in Team Fortress 2 by hitting it with a wrench. "Ug! Me caveman, me hit gun till fixed!"

6 out of 10. More than $10 and you’ve been ripped off. Sure the graphics are good, the weapons are decent and the vehicles can be fun... but that’s about it.

when you say, they refuse to release the sdk.... are you sure they even made a sdk? they probably didnt even make one... so you should change that to, they refuse to create a sdk to release, because if they already had one they probably would release it, they have no reason not too...

HaraDaya Jul 12 2011, 2:47pm replied:

Tightening one bolt to fix any damage is not realistic, true. But they can't waste their time making an animation for each and every kind of damage the vehicle has taken. Any other game wouldn't even bother making an animation for repairs. So in that sense, it's pretty great.

There is a stealth system, it's just made for consoles and it's analog controllers. On the console you can move as slow as you want. On PC you're set on a fixed speed when walking and sneaking. This screws up the stealth. I know this cause I'm using a G13 joystick for movement.

Story? Eh, the only stories I remember from playing Far Cry 2 is the assaults I planned that played out perfectly. The main story didn't even matter.

Everything else you said, I agree with.

Brilliant game from a very good game developer company. If you love open world games, especially FPS games, then this would be something that you will love. This game throws you into a hostile environment and basically anything can kill you; from malaria to hang-glider crashes. You will have to survive by relying on the only few weapons you have that can be by times, not really reliable after all, and as well as your buddies that can bust you out of a firefight when needed. This game is in my opinion…
