You are sent to war-torn Africa to assassinate The Jackal, a mysterious arms dealer who has rekindled conflict between local warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the warring factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

Description

TELMAH SPEAR - Release Notes (Thank you for reading!) Submitted for the Landmarks Award (ModDB). -This project is the result of 220+ hours of precision work spanning the course of 63 days. -The map is, structurally, an exact exterior replica of one of the largest free standing news/broadcast buildings (The Calgary Herald) in my city, owned by the city's largest media organization - Canwest Global Communications Corp. -Initial scaling, for major site features, was calculated using Google Earth. (see included overviews) -Over 70 onsite photographs were taken for this project. (see included photos) -The playable area and site property have been, from the start, streamlined for fast pasted multiplayer action, suitable for 8-12 players (8 player DM / 4v4, 5v5, 6v6 TDM or CoD). - Thank you for giving us this great opportunity to express ourselves! A map that took 63 days when this competition only goes for 30 or something? Is that even allowed? Anyway, nice looking map from the piccy, i'm gonna take a geeza now :)

Well...impressive and seems a very pretty map. Just think it´s unnecessary all this "220+ hours, 2+ months...google earth precision" thing.

cheers

Just went in, played it, then went to the editor because I was wondering if I'd missed something, and I hadn't...
It seems that from a distance it looks great, absolutely fantastic, but when walking around it's a little boring.
Perhaps if you add your own sortof flavour or style to the map, make it a little bit different, but still recognizable as the landmark, it would be better, but right now it's really only good for a still picture.
BTW, if you want to kill the flicky textures on objects that overlap one another, move one object a very slight amount in a direction, it looks better to have an object that potrudes 1mm than an object that flickers annoyingly ;)
All in all, great effort, I think you've done a really good recreation of this land mark, however it just needs that added flavour to it to make the multiplayer more interesting.
Thumbs up from me :)

You gotta be smoking crack. I have made quit a few maps for this game and this one is STUNNING. The map maker should win just for the PLAYGROUND. You did an awesome job and as a amateur map maker myself I can totally appreciate the time and effort this masterpiece must have took. You have my vote. The map as a whole is completely in sync. You dont see one thing and say "why is this here" Again great job. You make me think that much harder on my entry

Thanks guys!

Otreum - I know what you mean, but i chose to go with the realist look over the stylized. Tried to make it as grounded as possible. Oh and the flicker thing, yes I did that for every object I could, didn't think I missed any =/

As for the contest, the rules are that the map has to be entered by a specific date, not that it has to be started on one.

twcrash, you may have made quite a few maps, but so have I ;)
There is no doubt that it is a stunning map, and I do appreciate the amount of effort, however it's not what I thought it was, that's all.
Each to their own ;)

Yeh, there were flickery textures on the building walls in some areas and I think that was about it, oh and a path that kinda leads straight into the corner of the outside wall. I didn't have a huuuuge loook at it, but they are two things I remember off the top of my head.
I love alot of the rest of it though, like how you've done the gates and stuff. Simple, yet effective, I like ;)

I have to agree with Otreum on this one; you have the freaking great looking setting down, now you just have to focus all of your efforts on making fun to play. That said, it's pretty solid now. Keep up the good work.

looked interesting from the picture, but suffered two major flaws: the building itself only looked real from the ground, and the gameplay sucked. the detail was impressive, but the telmah spear building just isnt that interesting to look at.
