You are sent to war-torn Africa to assassinate The Jackal, a mysterious arms dealer who has rekindled conflict between local warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the warring factions against each other, identify and exploit their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

Description

Entry for What the?! award of the Far Cry level design contest. Small map old west style map supporting all game modes. Pretty wall shaking, earth splitting, fire balls flying from the heavens, millions of seven foot tall flesh eating grasshopper-frogs that are impervious to small arms fire, mile high tsunami, weird slimy green stuff all over the bathroom sink, and almost Hollywood scene losers invading our hometowns kind of stuff we have here. Revision 2 and likely the last revision. Enjoy.

Simple, yet very nicely done. There was visible effort in this map, I like to see that :)
As for crits, well, it's very nice and simple, no need for it to be a huge town or anything :), I would suggest rotating the town so that the sun is on the horizon at the end of the town, that'd look very westerny then. Also, if you lowered the ground a little bit beneath the church and put grass there, so that you couldnt see it through the floor, it would be cool as you could essentially burn the church then :)

Other than that, it's pretty sweet! :)

May I also suggest adding something near the middle out in the open, such as a well.
The current well is outside the gate and doesn't really get noticed, if you put it in the center, it becomes cover and also looks in place ;)

I was thinking a train station would be good earlier, but you'd have to rearrange the town a bit. Personally that's what i'd do, it'd feel more western like then ;)

Thanks for the advice. Check out the thread; I just posted a teaser pic. Moving stuff around wasn't as difficult as I expected so it's all good my friend.

I was gonna comment on there, but I figured it's more on topic here. With that railway, it looks so much better, I'm really looking forward to the next map.
What I really like about this map is that you didn't just use the prebuilt buildings, you've got the fences and walls and done it all yourself and made them actually look like pre-built buildings, which as I said shows alot of effort and dedication.
Anyway, i'll download when the new map is up and comment then ;)

Thank you. Your input is alway appreciated. I am too fond of the railway I have going there; I was initially unsure if I could make it work, but the result is way better then I expected. The buildings are pretty simple in design, but a pain to make; I'm glad you like them. The barn sucks though. :( The new version will be out tomorrow. If you want to see a pic of the finished product check out my [personal] profile pics; the latest one (not retouched at all except text) is that which I will use for the preview pic when I update. Thanks again. :)

Good stuff, but no grass under the church! :P
I just went into the editor and did that to your map, so what I did was get a square brush on the "terrain flatten" tool, and set the height to 15.3, then lowered everywhere under the church to that height, making sure snap to terrain was turned off.
Once I did that, I trimmed around the edges and set the height back to 16 so that players couldn't see under the church. Then I simply painted the grass on the terrain under the church and trimmed the areas where the grass was visible through the floor (at the edges where there is a height transition), and voila, throw a molotov into the church and it catches fire :D
The only bad part is that it doesn't stay on fire for long :(

anyway, I like it much more with that train, it adds more cover and makes things far more interesting. The only crit I have is that the railway track up at the UFLL base looks nasty, like the train would crash if it hit the track where it begins to bend. It's not a huge issue but you can use the snap tool to fix that up, then just change the terrain again where the track leads, as when you fix it up, it angles off.

That'll do me :P

Whoa, it actually worked for you? I must have been doing something really wrong. I will take another crack at it thanks. Didn't notice the track thing. Thanks for the heads up. :)

The church fire worked! Thanks for the walkthrough. :) It looks a little awkward how the floor goes orangish for the first second or so, but the end result was great. Train track fixed also.

well, the floor going orange actually looks good, as when you think about it, when wood is burning, it glows orange from the heat, so I think the orange glow looks fine :)

What do you mean? Be my guest to work on it if you want. I will be interested to see what you do with it. :) I think all you have to do is upload it under a new name like Once Upon a Time in the East 4ev3r's Cut or something like that and put my name in the credits and explain in the summary that I gave you permission and whatnot. Normally I would pull my version, but with that contest going on that aint a good idea.
