With Christmas on its way, we thought it would be a suitable time to bring about another mini-update for Faceless. The Soulrender is still undergoing its latest facelift, and the story is well and truly coming to life in the game. We successfully completed our first basic multiplayer test, and we'd like to show that in action very soon. We released a small teaser on the 16th August of this year which revealed one of the game's dolls in action. Whilst they are only able to control themselves slightly, they are still trapped and waiting to be set free or consumed by the Soulrender.

Set Them Free.

We also released a bunch of new in-game screenshots of our Small Maps, which we believe will be the most commonly played maps due to the larger maps requiring the full concentration and attention of the player. These Small Maps are not related to the main storyline, but they will now contain tidbits of story information provided by Henry North; Daniel's father. These can be found in tape recorders scattered around the Small Maps. Henry North strived to save Daniel from a life of hunting down the paranormal, but as evidenced by the game's plot, he may not have succeeded. Introducing Steven Kelly as Henry North.

Let Him Live.

Here are some screenshots of three out of the four Small maps seen in Faceless.

Click on the screenshots to see them in full-size.

Oakfall Motel.

Wakeland Town School.

Wakeland Town Police Station.

We're still working hard on getting previews ready for you all to see the game in action. As a recap, I'd like to remind you on how the gamemode itself works, and how that will differ from the Small Maps to the Main Maps. The Gamemode surrounds setting innocent souls free, there are dolls scattered all around Wakeland City, and you must make sure you set all these souls free whilst trying to survive. The Soulrender is a severely wounded and injured creature, and this is the only reason why inexperienced survivors have any chance of being able to set all the innocent souls free. Your job will be to collect the dolls one-by-one (The number of dolls depend on how many people are playing) and deliver them to the Ritual Zone.

Before, during, or even after you have set all the souls free, you will need to power up a generator that will open an industrial-strength door and allow you and your friends to enter a safe room. This room is covered in sigils that ward the Soulrender away, allowing the characters to wait it out and escape. The Small Maps will not require this, players will escape by going back towards the entrance of the map. You can certainly imagine how this will come into play when watching the "Let Him Live" teaser!

Finally, I'd like to show the differences of the Ritual Zone in Hyde Street Station (One of the main maps) - from its first version to its current version. After working on the Small maps for the year, I took some time to revisit Hyde and work on the Ritual Zone again, improving upon it based on what I'd learned.

Version 1: (2014)

Version 2: (2015)

We hope you all have a great Christmas this year, and we're constantly looking forward to update you on our progress. We understand a few of you are impatient for this project, but this has been a very difficult feat to achieve and some of us have pushed our skills beyond the limit of what we thought we could achieve in order to make Faceless a reality. We know many of you are desiring a release date, and whilst we cannot guarantee one, I will say that we are aiming for Q3 2016. This is not a release date, this is a target that we hope to meet.

Remember to keep an eye on our Facebook Page! We post WIP content, as well as other information pertaining to the game there.

Oh my god...
Sam A. Mowry, voice of Alexander of Brennenburg from Amnesia, my all time favorite villain voice actor, in a Slender game? All made in UE4?
I want to cry.

I'm going to play the ever living **** out of this on my youtube channel whenever it comes out, and hopefully I can get my friends to join me on it. Seeing how absolutely amazing it looks already, I guarantee you I'm gonna make sure I get as many people as I can to learn about your company, and this game.

Look me up some time, I'm Shy the Why Guy on youtube, and I aim to be a horror game let's player. (I don't have many subs but I try my best)

EDIT: THERE'S A VERSUS!?!?!?

Whoa there buddy, I appreciate the excitement, but let's get one thing straight, this is not a Slenderman/"Slender" game. The Being is not Slenderman, nor is It connected to the same universe as Slenderman.

For more information, check out this post.
Steamcommunity.com

Hopefully this wont deter you from playing it anyway.

Honestly I see 0 differences between the two other than this one having a blue suit. They both teleport, have the exact same look, can create proxies/dolls, etc. You don't have to be ashamed of it being a slender clone, look at gaze of horror and those other ones, they all have different mechanics, different rules and stories, different names, hell in one of them you can shoot him dead. I'm never gonna be able to call him anything but Slenderman lol.

Also when I choose to play a game, that doesn't change, don't worry :P I love games like these.

@ShyTheWhyGuy

You've only seen the surface (and current version) of the Being.

Here's the thing:
1. They don't look the same.
Slenderman is more human in appearance.
The Being is taller, thinner and more alienic in appearance. The "suit" is actually part of the Being, Its skin.
2. Dolls created by the Being are not Proxies.
In Slenderman's universe, Proxies are apostates of Slenderman, who do his bidding and are under his control.
The dolls contain souls that have been trapped by the Being and It feeds on the souls for power. The likeness of the dolls represent the person's likeness (and time/era they were from)

That's only the tip of the iceberg...

We "don't have to be ashamed of it being a slender clone" because we're NOT a Slender clone, not even close.
It's also apparent you don't know what happened last year...

Moddb.com

Reading this will tell you more about the differences between the Being and Slenderman, and also why we try to tell those who don't "see" that we're not a Slender clone.

Gaze of Horror and the other ones are different, they HAVE Slenderman, we DO NOT. But they all have the same mechanic, collect X amount of pages while trying to survive, I've yet to see unofficial Slenderman based games with an actual backstory and universe (and mechanics) all its own.

Faceless if VASTLY different.

We've always asked that you don't call the Being "Slenderman" "Slender" or "Slendy" because It is NOT Slenderman.

I recommend researching a game before talking blindly about it.

Unlike others I actually do research games man, you don't have to freak out about it :/ I wasn't talking blindly about it, I was just stating my opinion and the facts that I was able to see. You should just be proud of your game and happy that people (like me) like it, rather than argue. Calm down.

@ShyTheWhyGuy

When you've put your heart and soul into something only to have it come this close [pinches fingers] to being forcibly taken from you by Slenderman's Option Holders themselves because they THOUGHT the Being was Slenderman, (from the link above) you have the right to be protective and try to get the point across.

Sure, they put out the C&D, mainly to strong arm/bully us out of production, in false terms without even properly researching the game, they didn't know the name of the game was Faceless, and even after clarifying, they thought the Being's name was "Faceless" and they felt the need to attack us instead of the tons of others deliberately, blatantly using Slenderman.

We try to avoid the confusion between the Being and Slenderman whenever possible because...yeah, they're not the same. But I think after you see the footage and It in-game, the confusion will be rid of once and for all for everyone.
Stay tuned...

Well good luck with the game! Can't wait for it to be released.

Also I have a suggestion for further distinguishing him from Slenderman, perhaps a mouth? I'm not saying like a normal one, I had a very terrifying image in my head recently while thinking about the being. If I have the time I'll try to draw it and show you. Just a suggestion, not required, he looks awesome already as well :3

Will a demo be available? I've only gotten the chance to test one game using UE4 on my PC, and it wouldn't even start, so I'm hoping I'll be able to verify that I can run it prior to a purchase.

@Paynamia

There wont be a "demo" but there will be a free version, but it wont have everything the full version has. It will have a short demo of the prologue and two multiplayer maps for the Dolls gamemode.
I guess you could give that one a try first when it's released.

But I think you'll probably have no problem running Faceless. Don't forget we'll have tons of graphics settings to modify to get the best performance while retaining playability and graphics. At some point later on we'll have the recommended system specs posted.

@Rascal07reardon

Now why is that? lol

If you're worried about it being a performance problem, don't worry, we're making it so that Faceless has tons of options to modify to get the best performance possible while still retaining playability and quality. It'll be even more in depth than most games nowadays, too.

U4 isn't like the CryEngine where you have to sign up on an external site just to play the game, no, all you have to do is get it on Steam and install, that's it; no other sign ups, no external site red tape, nothing. Just you, Steam, and the game.

We're making it so everyone can play Faceless, hence the tons of graphics options, the low price (not going up because of engine switch), and many other things. Like you, we're gamers, we know the struggle of such things. Faceless is a game by gamers, for gamers, and we're looking to bring the best experience you can have.

If these things aren't the problem, what is? For all we know, it could be a misunderstanding you may have.

I'm kinda upset you guys ditched Source for Unreal Engine 4. :(

Oh well I still look forward to this anyway. :)

@WyldStyle

Well, look at it this way...
On Source, there was a chance the game wouldn't come out at all if we stayed. The engine is 10 years old, buggy, and it's rare to find decent, experienced people who work on it. coughaiprogrammerscough
On Unreal 4, we're creating content much faster than before, and we can do things we couldn't do on Source. The engine is brand new, gets updated frequently, better tools, and more people are experienced with it.
It was either, stay with Source and get nothing done and risk the game never coming out, or switch to a better engine...

Still glad to know you're still anxiously waiting for the game.

Hmm come to think of it, the change from Source to Unreal Engine 4 was a pretty smart and wise move.

Best of luck as always! :D
