A new month, a new update and some new screenies. The 10th entry in our series of weekly updates. "Minor update due to news inconsistencies! I wasn't drunk, guys." - Sklarlight

Posted by Sklarlight on Oct 1st, 2012

Hey guys, hope everybody's having a pretty good Monday today, it's a new month, which means we're progressing! As many of you already know, we have released the minimal teaser for Faceless. Many of you have interpreted it as an 'announcement for an announcement', but I would like to say this is not the case. I had never intended to do a minimal teaser, I just wanted to make the actual one and then ship it out to the crowds, however I eventually thought it would be nice for some people to see the minimalistic teaser if they cannot crack the codes to find the official teaser. I just wanted to be nice, you see. Talking of being nice, I can't be too nice.

The teaser will be released on the 5th, I had wanted to release it on Halloween but we'll have something different for then. On that topic, how many of you will be dressing up in white morphsuits and a black suit on top this year? I can imagine quite a few of you are, unless you're not relatively tall or ultra-slim, to which I am neither. Ah well, we can't all have what we want! For those of you who still want to see the trailer now before everybody else, you've got to go and crack the codes! Many of you have tried, few have succeeded and those few have been rewarded with the chance to see the trailer before everybody else does! So go, go go, if you want to attempt to do some serious, yet simple (If you know how) decoding, check these videos out in order from the bottom upwards. Many of you have said:

I've decoded it right but the link is broken!

Then you haven't decoded it, simple as. I've checked and tested each one rigorously before having uploaded it so there is nothing wrong with the videos! For those of you who cannot successfully crack it, unfortunately you can either get a friend to crack it for you, or just cope with the minimalistic alternative for the time being. Any links posted publicly to the trailer will be removed because I can't be too nice, we want people to feel the success of having worked for the teaser, so yesh. :3 The teaser IS and is ONLY a teaser, it doesn't represent any final gameplay aspects, it doesn't represent any final maps, it doesn't represent anything other than how we would like to envision the game through post effects.

Now,

onto bigger fish. Let's take a look at a couple of images from our newest addition, the Hyde St. Station map by Dillon (ForbiddenDonut), this is one of the maps that will be shipping with Faceless upon launching. The pictures include the main subway and the dark, eerie tunnels which you probably won't want to remain inside for long.

THESE SCREENSHOTS REPRESENT A MAP IN A WIP STATUS.

Here are a few words Dillon (ForbiddenDonut) would like to say about this map in progress!

ForbiddenDonut wrote:

Hyde St. Station is the third map being developed for Faceless and is based in a decaying and forgotten Manhattan subway station that now serves as a playground for an unknown and malicious being. The level has been in the making for only a few weeks now, so it’s an early and generally undetailed build where I’m still setting things like textures, lighting and geometric details up. However, the design philosophy is one that pinpoints the power of lighting and shadows in the horror genre.

The idea is to confuse and disorient the player; to create an illusion that Slenderman is always trailing behind through the usage of pillars and the shadows they create. Between uneasy florescent lighting and fleshy, mechanical colors, there is a collage of eeriness being built into this subterranean nightmare.

So immeasurably foul does this environment feel at times, you almost have to pull straws with your friends to see who is going to go first into the darkened unknown of the subway tunnels. Prepare, for not even Victor Frankenstein could predict the terror that lies within.

Pretty sexy, huh? Just one of various settings in which you will need to escape from Slendy himself, or itself, rather. We aim for the Slenderman to be able to have a unique way of exploring each map as well as special unique interactions with each map, this is a simple idea right now but we do hope to expand on it.

Also, a couple of nice props which will be seen in-game, just to give you an idea of the kind of stuff we're including:

You may have also discovered that we are transitioning over to a new website, which originally started out as a fansite.

Click to go to website.

There's never better news than having an official domain that looks tidier, neater as well as the website looking snazzy, thanks to Joshua Klassen, we now have this website as our official website for Faceless (Previously Slender: Source), it started as a fan-site and then upon myself contacting Joshua, discussions took place and it is now our official site! The other site can still be in use but it will not be the primary one as of now.

So if you're wanting to be on the forums then go ahead and register.

It's been a hectic time for a lot of us. A lot of moving about going on, college, uni, work and so on, we're doing what we must, and we certainly won't just do what we can, we'll push this to be something extraordinary.

Thanks for reading guys, and have a great week.
