Single Player Platformer
Exil is a platform game filled with action. Its style is based upon that of the latest Prince of Persia games. The game allows you to embody Be Enklave, a barbarian king deposed from his throne : Enklave. Sent on a prison island lost in the middle of a dark ocean, Enklave will have to escape and fight the other prisoners and resident monsters to escape... The game will allow acrobatic moves and interactions with the player's environment, and a sword will be available to fight the monsters and prisoners.

Epic, as youngsters would say…
Epic, like the developers of Unreal
Epic, like this day…
Epic, what EXIL will be…

We never ever thought that one day I would make this dream come true. To develop a game using Unreal engine 3. We dreamed about it, EPIC did it. They released some time ago the UDK (Unrea Development Kit), which is in fact one of their complete frameworks, completely independent of any game. It is now totally possible to developg a full game using Unreal Engine 3, for free !
This is an occasion EXIL has to seize : the Unreal Engine is an exceptionnally well-made and versatile engine. It would have been just wrong to ignore this opportunity and to keep developping Dooce for no reason. Why no reason? Well, it's mostly a matter of time, but also, why would you want to reinvent the wheel?
Until now we were developping Dooce because we didn't find any satisfaction in the opportunities offered in the different free game engines, and the commercial licenses were far too expensive for EXIL's budget. This is the ideal occasion to speed up the development and the quality of our project!
So yes, you've got it right...
You have to reckon this is far from ugly ! (caption made using the UDK's editor)
Yes, we understand that you might be telling yourself: "Again"?
Indeed, the project keeps moving and being rethought, even though it had somehow been stable for a solid month. To date, last month of development has just been spent focusing on the ingame level editor (ingame being preferred to out of game via another software), here is a video showing how far we are into development :
It is no longer of any real us we've got to confess, especially when you see what the UDK is capable of.
You are already a unreal engine maps maker ? You know how to script under the unreal engine 3 with the Unreal script ?

I think the joke with the progress video was lost in translation. Just saying.
It was not a joke.
Seriously : it was the real progress of the project. We have only one programmer for the project, it was the reason of the slow developement of the project.
It's important to explain the video in a proper context. When you say that you're far into development, one expects it to resemble a game. Maybe the video displays a feature well-implemented, I'm just saying it doesn't LOOK that impressive. It's a weird floating box.
If you had explained exactly what it was, maybe it'd make some more sense.
Other than that, good luck with the project, seems ambitious.
Well I never really followed you so I can't say anything about the changes you've made.
But now that you've decided to go with UDK you've got a capable engine under your belt and you should be able to do anything you want. So this time stick with it, I wish you the best of luck.
indeed mathias
