A new war is brewing. A violent conflict, between the Six Colonies, each one convinced that it was in the right, each one sure of its own ability to defeat its enemies. But they need Generals. They need soldiers. They need you.

I believe that Evolution RTS has a Linux version, but it hasn't been added to Desura yet. Does anyone have any idea when the Linux version will be released?

Gah, I didn't see this before now, I'm sorry.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:spring/ppa
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:evorts/stable
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install evolutionrts

afterwards you can run “Evolution RTS” from your Applications/Games
menu or launch “evolobby” via terminal.

^^ that is without using desura, and assuming you're using ubuntu or a derivative.

Wrt status:

This is copy pasta of a reply I made to someone who asked the same thing in the comments.

It's in the process. Desura requires us to provide and maintain it in a way that is different from how we would normally do it on linux. Long story short, it's a process. Hopefully it will be available soon, but koshi has had some IRL(tm) stuff to take care of.

In short...

Soon(tm) :-)

P.S. It's worth noting that linux is a market that I want to hit pretty hardcore, so don't get the impression that this is a low priority. In fact it's quite the opposite and is very high on the list.

I'm also waiting for the Linux build (not using *buntu, and even when I was using it I wasn't very fond of ppa's).

I also would want access to linux build, at least until a Desura (awesome software btw) version comes out.

PS :I'm using ArchLinux x86

Well, I'm working on it, but the problem is I can't simply just do it all by myself as I need help and support from the engine devs which can be a bit tricky sometimes. As an example, I posted a thread about this on the dev forums a few days ago and have yet to receive any response.

If you would like to help in the form of throwing in an oar, you can make a post on the aforementioned thread here: Springrts.com

It really sucks that I don't have a build for Desura linux yet, I thought it would happen a long time ago, but I've been met with a lot of resistance. :-(

Guys, what about Ubuntu 10.04, will I be able to run Evolution RTS on that?

Dec 4 2011 Anchor

Yep, should run just fine.

Cool, it seems I discovered this game just at the right moment. I'll keep tracking it till the Desura build is ready. Thanks. ;)

Well, first of all, pretty much everything Debian is covered.

Other distros can compile from sauce.

Springrts.com

Once that is done:
To install Evolution RTS on Linux distributions other than Ubuntu/Debian, you'll need the "rapid" tool.
Instructions on getting this tool can be found at:

Pypi.python.org

However, you may not need to go through those steps to get rapid. Many linux
distros include rapid in their package managers:

sudo apt-get install rapid-spring

Once you have "rapid" installed you can instruct it to install Evolution RTS with the
command:

rapid pin evo:stable

and you can update all of your rapid packages with the command:

rapid upgrade

This method won't get you the maps, but you can download them via the lobby. Once you have started up SpringLobby, in the chat type:

/j #evolution

Right click on the new #evolution tab and choose "Automatically join at startup".

The click on the Battle List tab, open up the filter and select "Only Games/Mods I have".

It's not very elegant, but it should work.
