Did you ever want to change some attributes of your character , well here is how to do so. Right now it supports the editing of just about everything you'd want to edit, though there's still plenty of values in the file of whose purpose I'm unaware. See the TODO file for information on what needs to be done with the app still, which is quite a bit. The README file should be pretty informative as well. The app is released under the GNU GPL 2.0.

The apps were developed on Linux, and they use Python, GTK+, Cairo, and PyGTK to do its stuff. It works on Windows as well. I've had at least one report of somebody getting these packages to work on OS X; see the Installation page for some more information on that. (See the "related" section below for an app which is probably much easier to get running on OS X, but only lets you edit Book 1 character files.)

Project Page: Sourceforge
Sourcecode: Github (Full sourcecode is also included in the zip/tgz archives)

For me on ubuntu 11.04 i didn't need any thing to launch the python files it just run them and everything goes well and for windows it just need to install the runtime environment mentioned above

Just to confirm that the below worked for me on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit

"for the sound to be working through desura click on the desura icon and then settings > general> global game launcher and add /usr/bin/padsp, if you use pulse audio sound system then sound will always work"

Oh and i really like the oldschool feel of the game. :)

To anyone that has had problems with sound in meany Desura games on GNU/Linux, add "psdsp" to the start of the launcher
command, IE: in the .desktop file for Desura.
like this:
Exec=psdsp /home/gego/games/desura/desura %U

this fixes sound in meany games..

Did you mean "padsp" instead? That is what I'm using...

Gave negative karma on this *by mistake* I'm sorry, meant to give it positive... Both the above posters combined gave me a perfect solution:

padsp /(your path to desura)/desura %U

Fixes sound on Mint 14 for Both Eschalon games! :D

I've been tinkering with sound on Kubuntu 64 11.10. It seems that for whatever reason sound in Eschalon Book 1 only works with PulseAudio installed, and then launching the game via padsp. The problem with PulseAudio is that it borks my sound in general (i.e. my mic inputs don't work, poor sound quality). Having removed PulseAudio, my sound works 100%, except in Eschalon Book 1. I tried launching the game in a terminal with aoss but sound still doesn't work. When I try to launch the game with /usr/bin/aoss, I get "ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libaoss.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored." Any ideas?

Running Opensuse 12.1
Had an issue with sound. Caused the game to not launch from Desura and would cause the game to have no sound if I launched the game from the command.
Fixed it by symbolic linking the 32bit version oflibpulsecommon-1.1.so to libpulsecommon-1.0.so
As Opensuse 12.1 uses pulse almost exclusively now I'm also using padsp as a wrapper and still had to do that.

Just posting this incase anyone else has the issue.
As for the game... I played the demo a bit... what feels like a few years ago.
It was fun but didn't have time for it. Kinda forgot about it for a while and now that it's on Desura I had to pick up a copy.

If you're using Slackware64 13.37 and not getting any sound in the demo for book 1, then start the game manually using the aoss wrapper.

$ aoss /path/to/Eschalon_Book_I_Demo

For some odd reason I can't add this manually to the Desura launcher options, and AFAIK there are no options in the game itself to fix this annoying issue.

did you give the full path in the desura global game launcher such as /bin/....
you have to give full path then it should work if not then desura crash with me

ThomasLocke Dec 27 2011 replied:

Yup, full path. I've had no crashes - I just need to prefix the path with "aoss" to get working sound.

Would be nice if the Eschalon devs could fix this, or if the Desura devs would allow us to muck about with the path itself.

Outstanding RPG, #1 for Linux! It's even better that I can support a local (Indianapolis) company by playing the game. I wish more quality games would be released with native Linux support.

Eschalon Book I features many hours of exploration, character development, and fun. With many character options and quest threads the game may be played and replayed.
