"Crystal Picnic" is an action RPG with a traditional retro-console style perspective for field view, and platforming battles. The game will feature lots of quests and loot, and a great story. The theme is colourful, humorous and family friendly.

Tonight we released ALPHA20 of our in-development game Crystal Picnic. The last time we made an announcement on IndieDB was for ALPHA15, so the list of changes (below) is long! If you want to show support for our team, consider using this image as your Facebook banner! Thanks!

Changes Since Last Announcement:

  • Forced battle improvements including panning to enemy, tripping and slipping.
  • New area -- Old Forest entrance (not much there yet)
  • Transition to new area -- Ride a canoe across the lake!
  • Added many new SFX
  • Coins earned in battles
  • New game icon
  • Map spot at the intersection area
  • Fixed bugs related to quitting to the menu and running the game again
  • Pyou doesn't go away forever anymore
  • Bisou now has a melee attack when she unequips her bow
  • Fixed crash when your primary character dies
  • Improved the usability of the shop by making the action button start purchasing when the list is activated. Also selling seemed to lose focus so appeared to hang and that was fixed.
  • Display the name of the place on the "cursor" at the map screen
  • Fix the issue with enemies appearing in the wrong spot during the transition into battle effect
  • Added the graphic for Bisou's bow (for selling at the shop.)
  • Allow purchasing dirty socks at the shop
  • Added a water cooler in the cafe/inn in River Town. Also added a new motif when using water coolers.
  • The crystal shop. When you learn how to use crystals, you can access the shop from the pause menu. Here you can "buy" new abilities and stat upgrades. The effects of the upgrades are not implemented yet but you can buy them anyway, and your choices will be saved.
  • Using items works when selecting them directly from the list in the pause menu.
  • Much simpler license terms that are still very family friendly (using the Nooskewl Family License, now included with the alpha.)
  • New map node graphics (current spot and unselected spots.)
  • Stick and Shovel shop graphics were the same as the Bat - fixed
  • A lot of other miscellaneous fixes and improvements.
  • Fix lost input focus when equipping only weapon on someone without a weapon equipped.
  • Fix the joystick bugs in the shop (you've probably seen them if you've played that part with a joystick on any platform.)
  • Fixed Bisou appearing in new games after getting her to join then quitting (for real this time.)
  • Allow pausing/saving from the world map.
  • Save and load play time when saving and loading them game.
  • Format the play time in the pause menu better.
  • Added some new chests to the castle including a new piece of equipment.

We released ALPHA11 on Monday. It has the third playable character fully usable and some other interesting updates as well as bug fixes. I'll have to start creating release pages for each ALPHA on ALPHA12 will be almost strictly a bug fix release, this coming Monday probably.
