The coming days and weeks are going to be crammed full of news, and we are excited to share the first few items of that today. Firstly, we have just released a brand new, much more polished launcher. We hope this will be the final time we have to update it, but either way we are very happy with how the new version has turned out. Everyone will be able to update automatically via patch, so no need to worry about re-downloading the game. To note, some users may need to download the latest version of C++ redistributable.

We would also like to let everyone know that time is quickly running out now for the pre-order prices and offers. Be sure to get in and get the game now to still be entitled to a Steam key when we launch on Early Access!

Once we are selling on Steam, copies purchased on Desura or RainDG will no longer come with a Steam key.Since launch on EA is looming closer, we will be releasing details soon for how to obtain and redeem Steam keys for all of our pre-order and Kickstarter customers. We know everyone is plenty anxious to start playing through Steam, and we are so excited to be getting so close! Ok I purchased the game but how do i play it? Ive tried starting a server. That was basically a view of the world and nothing else. Then i tried opening another client and logging into the server I had just created. No dice...

start a client, click connect, put 'localhost' for the host address :)

"The server has disconnected you, either its full, not ready for players or is shutting down"

You need to wait till the server has created its world completely, this message normally occurs if the server is still loading, or creating the world.

I dont understand...i start the game and go to connect, and type local do i know when/if it is done creating a world? The Command window that opens says "resending connect...." like 4 times then disconnects.

you are starting a server first correct? You need to effectively start the game twice right now. once for the server, once for the client connecting to it.

If you are starting a server and client, and attempting to connect on the client via localhost but are still getting the connection refused it sounds like it could be an internal permissions problem. Issues like these will get sorted out in the near future giving us the full log of the client and the server will help, you can post this kind of information on our forums, as the game is still in beta, alot of unstableness is possible between different computers then we've seen in our smaller beta runs.

There is a method to running the server in batchmode which improves performance, you can check out the guide on the forums under dev blogs (I'd post the link myself but I cant due to this being a new account).

You can also feel free to band up with other testers on our IRC to join their servers, and as I said before our focus is multiplayer,but we do plan on having single-player before full release.

yea. for now we are VERY focused on multiplayer experience far more then single-player, so there really isnt a single-player mode right (you just connect to yourself locally) now, it will however be in the final release.

Okay but setting aside the whole creating a server thing, do you think the game can be reasonably played as a single player game in its current state or would those of us who primarily are interested in playing it single player be better off waiting until the game is a bit further along in development?

I realize you guys really need the money for alpha funding but be honest please.

Motoki, I would say it is reasonably able to be played single player. We just released a blog on our forums about how to run in batch mode, which will help users with less beast machines run the server and game same time. You will lose the capacity to use any of the server controls, as we have not introduced any slash commands yet. But you would still get to experience all of the automated systems working currently. Really it's a perspective thing Motoki, what do you consider reasonable.

Well it is in Beta so you can't really expect an amazing playing experience right now since Beta is mainly for getting feedback and bug reports from the community.
The main attraction of buying it in Beta is that you get the first responders armor and beta perks. The price may or may not change at release as well, which is often the case with Beta funded games, but don't quote me on that one. :)

I'm familiar with betas and don't really expect some amazing or highly polished experience in them. My main concern was that getting a game that ends up being primarly or soley tailored around multiplayer because that something I am not interesting in most of the time.

very few people have suffered from problems that actually keep them from playing, and as we improve performance it will only get better and better, not even counting single-player which will eventually come along.

Edge of Space is already a fantastic game, and getting better every day. The amount of progress since Day 1 beta back in June is absolutely staggering, and I can't wait to watch it get even better

Not really impressed by this so far, I think I might stick with starbound when it comes out soon, since the developers are already almost going to release it soon! This game wasn't much of a bang for your buck and wish I didn't spend the money.
