This is my first public indie game. My goal is to create a game in which you make your own dungeon while defending it from Heroes.

Dungeon Colony is a game influenced by one of my favorite games - Dungeon Keeper - and it adds Tower Defense waves of enemies with resource collection and crafting.

The game is in alpha and many features are not complete yet. I am updating the game quite regularly, sometimes multiple times a week. Download the alpha release on the web-site at www.DungeonColony.com. The game requires Java and it auto-updates itself if a new version is available.

About the game:

Dungeon Colony is a 2D fantasy real-time strategy game in which you take control over a Dungeon Lord and his loyal Minions to explore and build a Dungeon and save your colony from the brink of extinction. Command your Minions to dig out tunnels and rooms, craft items from resources they collect, and set up traps to defend your new home against greedy heroes. The mountain harnesses powerful magic that has the potential to give you control over the lands around you. But it's up to you to uncover its secrets before you are overrun by your enemies.

I'm making good progress on the final major game engine features: Creature behavior and creature economy. In this version update (v0.2.6.0) I'm extending how abilities are used to control your minion behavior.

There are 9 new abilities which range from mining ore, lumbering wood to transporting and building objects. Now, the player can control what orders a worker will perform and which one he will ignore. The following gif animation shows how you can simply turn on and off certain abilities.

You ask what is the benefit for that and why should I care??? A lot of feedback I've received asked me to allow the player control over what minions do. The engine used to assign orders to your workers on a first come first serve basis. So if you had 10 activities pending to lumber wood, whenever a minion would become free to perform this job, he would take on the job and carry it out.

With the new system, you can designate which minions lumber wood, which mine, dig dirt, collect water, etc. This way, you could limit how many of your workers lumber wood, while others stay back to mine fore ore. By default a minion will carry out all of these abilities, but you can choose to turn them off when you want. In future game updates, workers will be able to learn new abilities. But that's not part of this release yet. :)

Since the update I haven't been able to find any boars.
Why can't the master perform any actions other than attack?
(Or he can, and I didn't notice?)
The master can get stuck if a tree grows in a place that he can't pass.
My minions got stuck because their inventories were full and the container they were trying to put things in was also full.
Can they place things on the ground?
Shouldn't they do that by default if they can't find a suitable container?
If I had a lot of minions it could be hard to track manually which ones are stuck because they can't place their inventory contents.
Just a few thoughts... :)

1. The master is too wise to perform actions that minions can perform ;). But besides fighting, he can also read and discover new crafting recipes using the 'Study' (check the crafting blueprint button). And he can also summon new minions if you have less than 3 left. I am planning on a new range of unique skills for the master in future.
2. Yes, you can place items that the minions carry on the ground. Open the inventory by selecting the minion and clicking on the bag button on the right hand side. Then chose the items to place on the floor. Most items can be placed on the ground. I did have them default drop item to the ground a while ago, but that created more headaches than not.
3. There are a couple of hints to see if a minion can't place items into inventories. A. the minion will display a note to the screen and B. the minion will walk very slow since the carrying capacity is maxed out.
4. The boars logic isn't quite done yet; hmm maybe your boars got stuck in a forest somewhere. At the moment, if there are less boars than a certain number, a new one will be added to a random outside position.

Is there any forum or FAQ? Because there are things, which makes me confused: cant be spike trap reseted? since new version I cant find boar etc. ...

Not yet, I'll make a forum soon. But you can always ask in here and I'll answer as soon as I see it. Spike traps can be re-armed. But they require 2 new spikes. So in a workbench pick up 2 spikes and then right click on the Spike trap to re-arm it. With regards to boars, I am currently working on their reproduction algorithm ;-p ... more to come soon.

I'm loving this game so much!!! I don't know how to get enough food though... I've read the manual, but it didn't say much about it. I think one of my minions starved.

You can get food from killing boars, they give you the most. Then from harvesting large and medium trees, they give you nuts. Mushrooms grow in the dungeon, I'll leave it up to you to figure out where ;). And then you can also a stew, if you craft the cooking pot.
