Drox Operative is a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer.

Eons ago the Drox ruled the galaxy through their mighty Operatives. These elite starship captains were trained to accomplish the impossible at whatever cost necessary. Whether employing stealth or brute force, they were always deadly. Using these Operatives, the Drox built a starlane system for quick travel amongst the stars, colonized and conquered millions of planets, and ruled the galaxy with an iron grip for over 100,000 years. Eventually realizing their Operatives were a threat, they attempted to assassinate all of them. They failed. The following Galactic Civil War was devastating.

Thousands of years later, the Drox are extinct, but the secretive Drox Operative guild lives on. They have learned their lesson though: loyalty to any one race is foolish. They now work for whoever can pay. And pay they do! Empires might span hundreds of planets and thousands of ships, but when a critical task arises, they still turn to an Operative.

In the new space race, the major races are scouting, colonizing, and expanding, trying to take over the galaxy by diplomacy, technology, war, or any other means their scheming minds can contemplate. As a Drox Operative it's NOT your job to manage all of those annoying people, build thousands of buildings, play nice with your enemies, or balance the budget. It IS your job to pick the winning side and maybe even help them conquer the galaxy if you're being nice, more importantly though is to rake in as many credits as possible, well that and build the coolest, deadliest ship in the known universe. Not many screw with an Operative captaining a Dreadnaught!

Amazing game. I just wish dropped loot showed the item level, that's far, FAR more important than the rarity since a purple weapon is useless if it does like a third of the DPS of the one you have.

My loot seems to show item levels, like the firearms commodity for plantets. Forgot if weapons and armor and other equipment show levels or not :) i just base the level on what i see, dmg + stats vs dmg OR stats.

I mean when they're on the "ground" so I know when to bother freeing up inventory space.

This isn't a 4x the 4x is the universe in the background you directly or indirectly influence it... there is a demo on the developers website

This games just rocks. It's like Diablo meets Master of Orion in space. Random universe each time, zillions of upgrades, RPG leveling, multiplayer, diplomacy with alien civs, random missions and the whole game world changes as you play.

The only few criticisms I'd have: It's hard to figure out sometimes if your loadout is effective against different enemies. There's so many stats (things like radiation resistance, EM resistance, chance to hit, stealth, etc.) that it can be hard to determine if you've created a good build. Also, to store items you need "cargo bays" which are too rare in my opinion.

All in all worth every penny.

You forgot the part about the empires killing each other off sometimes without you getting a chance to meet all of them.

I must love this game a bit too much as it's the first game on Desura I've felt compelled to write a review for... and I ran out of characters! :D

I would advise to not leave a review too short, a review is just that, a grand detail of every last bit of content and feature you encounter and what went wrong with it or how it could be better or describing it as a spoiler ^.^

yea the cargo bays are way too rare. should at least be able to buy them easily.

Cargo bays don't drop much, they are sold more at planets.

I had some doubts about it, i do think adding an option to commandeer enemy ships (either swapping to that races ship, or stealing it to haul it for selling, capturing and making your own mini armada of random race ships or of course being able to dominate your own planet where you can defend)

Either way still worth the buy :)

Yeah that would be cool, sort of like you can do in the old game Escape Velocity Nova which gave you general fleet commands (like wander free or stay close) so you didn't have to manage everything ala an RTS (not that that would be bad, just a different game)

The game's moddable and the AI already does things like this, so maybe it's something that could be added. I think the game just needs more of a following.
