Defence of the Ancients pits two teams of five players against each other in highly competitive, 40-minute or longer matches. Each player controls a single hero who levels up and stockpiles gold to purchase powerful equipment and consumables. As computer-controlled armies continually spawn and rush the enemy's base, players are responsible for using their powerful heroes to turn the tide of the battle in their favor.

22 comments by Maxen1416 on Jun 27th, 2012

The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by the staff at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

To celebrate the announcement of the SFM, They've also released "Meet the Pyro", the ninth installment in the "Meet the Team" series. Like all of Their animated shorts, They made it using the SFM.

If you're interested in making movies and games in parallel, sign up for an SFM beta key and start shooting your movie on location inside the world of TF2 today.

Hon is pretty much exactly like Dota same hero's also your a bit late making a commercial dota since Hon might be able to take legal action against you since they actually have a commercial product which they own..

And icefrog a war craft 3 map cant be copyrighted as your own product lol

i cant get over how little effort you put into the name

I love how you keep bitching about this game. Also, how can HoN take legal action against them for making a DoTA game??? Just because they already have a commercial game...that makes no sense. DoTA is more of a genre. With that logic you're saying that like call of duty could take legal action against other shooter games because call of duty is a commercial game. Also it's called DOTA 2 because it's the sequel to DOTA. Defense of The Ancients 2 and it's Heroes of Newerth not Heroes of Newearth.

They didn't need to put in any effort into the name, having DOTA 2 as the title will sell more copies than if they came up with an original title.

you always have to put effort in the name DOTA is a warcraft 3 map made by Blizzard DOTA 2 is a game made by Valve? Im pretty sure Dota is owned by Blizzard considering it was made on Warcraft 3. Why do you think Lol and Hon dident use the word Dota?

And another remake of Dota aint gonna sell to many copies anyways lol people are already spending money on Lol and others on Hon why start another game with yet another shop and another leveling system -_- im sorry but your too late.

It would end up being a cheap remake of Heroes of Newearth.

Dota isn't owned by blizzard. Dota 2 is being made by the same person who made the first Dota map on Warcraft 3.

Why do you think HoN and LoL didn't use the word "Dota"? Because they wanted to make their own games. They didn't want to make a Dota sequel, they wanted a stand-alone game. And plus, Valve already owned "Dota 2" when LoL and HoN started development.

Nobody is going to sue. You probably have no idea how the government even works if you think that.

umm no icefrog dident make dota on blizzards Map maker he bought the map on internet lol :/ and yes Dota is owned by blizzard read terms and agreements on Map editor

The owner of Dota sold the maps code to that guy, and the original owner of Dota got the idea from starcraft map

Which was also on Blizzards starcraft map maker :O
