Doorways is a first person survival horror game, with a complex story and a deep atmosphere. Each level of the game will challenge you with dynamic gameplay and distinct visuals and sounds. Thats maybe really stupid comparison, but it reminds me "Aliens: Colonial Marines" (where are statue-like aliens). And RE6 (cocoons)

They are petrafied, perhaps frozen & in stasis OR immobile but cognizant & aware of their situation - which means slow insanity. THe best best for being in such a pitiable state is via the gaze of a Medusa, the cloud breath of a Cockatrice or a Gorgon. Alternately, they could be cursed by a god(dess) or invoked the wrath of Chaos.
