Dominions II: The Ascension Wars is a turn based fantasy game in which you take the role of a pretending god. Each pretender is Lord and Master of one of seventeen cultures, each with its own individual strengths and weaknesses. With the aid of soldiers, mages and monsters you will conquer the lands of your neighbors in a struggle to become the one true god. This is an old game and it is now available for those who want some Dominions nostalgia or maybe just want to show their support for Illwinter Game Design. If you haven't played any Dominions game previously you probably want to start with Dominions 3 instead. (Go to Dominions 3 to find a forum where you can discuss this game and get technical support)

No matter the reason for the game being sold, I think it's a bit 'pricey' for the game to be sold at $9.99. That's w-a-y more than a lot of other "better" games.

Dude, you can't have played it. Dominions II and III are some of the deepest strategy games ever made. The amount of things you can do in either game is mind boggling. I'd still pay $50 for the third one, $10 for the second is reasonable.

Agreed, I have never played it. However, I was not arguing about "worth"- you'll find strategy games as deep or more on gog.com for $3.99 or less. I was just stating surprise at the relatively high price. I may well be boggled should I ever choose to purchase and play either of them, I cannot say at this time.

I bought Dominions 2 and 3 both when they immediately came out, $60 each. Never regretted either purchase for a moment.

Dominions is certainly a niche game, and its not for everyone. There is a demo for Dom3, I'd suggest giving it a shot. I can't even begin to calculate how many hours I've sunk into the Dominions series, and I've never even played the multiplayer in them.

I've played everything from Steel Panthers to Star Control. Nothing even approaches the level of depth in this series. If you don't own it, don't talk about it.

A discussion forum for Dominions II: The Ascension Wars can be found at the Dominions 3 forums: Desura.com

For administrative reasons and due to the expected lower volume of traffic compared to Dominions 3, this was determined to be the best course of action.

Same reason why people play any older game in a series.

Dominions - Priests, Prophets and Pretenders (aka Dominions 1) and Dominions 2: The Ascension Wars are offered for the sake of completeness and to make the old titles available for those who want them.

Dominions 3 uses the same engine developed farther and has improved game mechanics and many more nations (roughly 60 vs the 17 in Dominions 2). Dominions 3 also has an active multiplayer community while I am not aware of any active Dominions 2 multiplayer communities (all of those having migrated to Dominions 3).

For these reasons, it is recommended for new players to start with the third game in the series and come back to the first two if they wish to experience the whole continuum since the beginning of the series.

Right... I wasn't doubting that, just that line didn't exactly read very "promotion-like"

I updated it, hope you like the new line better.
And like Edirr said, it's for the sake of completeness. Also I like to keep the old games alive so they can run ok on new computers too.
