The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.
One of the best strategy games out there! I immediately fell in love with the carefully wrote and deep nation and unit descriptions, medieval music and minimalist graphics. Quite contrary, the game's graphics make the game so fun as it gives your imagination some blank space, thus making it personal (for me at least) and emotional. That is what lacks from today's games.
Basically an accessible strategy game with moderate learning curve and high complexity. Difficult to master but easy to pick up. At first could be a bit frightening because of the somewhat poor UI but if you're open minded, you have some imagination and dare to dive in an artistically created world, you'll do just fine and get an unforgettable experience.
Perfect, slick strategy game with almost ideal gameplay. Have rich and diverse selection of units, actions, items and even civilizations with distinct gameplay. Only drawback of this game is somewhat spartan user interface and dated graphics. Not very important for turn-based strategy. Must have!
Dominions 3 is one of the best strategy games around. With 100's of units, spells, and items, there are multiple paths for any of the many different factions to victory. And if by some chance you have mastered the nations and strategies presented by the base game, there is a whole world of Dom3 mods out there- new nations, re-balances, fantastic new maps. All around, this game is a deep, engaging, and fantastic turn based game.
Of course, with this amount of depth, the learning curve is pretty steep. The multitude of options also means the computer controlled opponents simply can't hold a candle to a properly trained human player- so after a certain mastery of the core game, multi-player action is the only way for a player to truly be challenged. Thankfully, there are several active communities for multi-player Dominions, and playing such a complex game with skilled human players is an absolute blast.
