The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

surprisingly deep and well thought out, very well desighned. Considering how old it is and it was made in some guy(s) spare time, its wonderful.

One of the older PC games to date, but trust me when I say, it's worth the price tag. You will enjoy this gem for years to come.

Expansive universe with very healthy community supporting it years after it came out originally. Easily modded and near-limitless replay ability. One of the greates strategy games of all time.

awsome depth amazing choice and would make this a must buy game for any strategy many things to pick from and so many ways of winning and just as many as losing.this game beats any jazzed up graphics guff you see getting produced so often now.this will be the bargain buy that you will ever make as you will still be playing this in years to come lastabilty is amazing.

This game offers immensely engaging and deep gameplay. While the single player can be fun, multiplayer is truly Dominions 3 strong point. With a myriad of different nations to play over three different eras and a bustling modding scene, you'll be hard pressed to ever run out of new things to try.

I've had this game for many years now (prior to Desura) and it's fantastic. Best of it's class as far as depth and breadth for a Fantasy TBS. Many unique gameplay ideas as well as a vast variety of different options for such a small game. It's really a gem and I'm glad to see it come to somewhere a bit more supported compared to ShrapnelGames.

One of the deepest turn based strategy games around. A very challenging game, especially in multi-player where the human opponents can fully exploit the game mechanics.

Beware, if this is your type of game (turn-based, epic fantasy war) then this game will suck you in like no other. Especially fun is the community and ability to play MP games via email and through servers. You can create a pretender deity ranging from an ancient witch, to a mighty titan, to a mysterious statue. You will recruit heroes, forge magic items, scout exotic lands, find magical sites, assassinate enemy commanders, raise gigantic armies, research spells that can cast the land in darkness, siege fortresses and on and on...

It has the epic depth of Steven Erikson, the soul of MOO2, the intellectual appeal of the 1st Edition AD&D, and the wistful charm of Mazzy Star.

The game has a great community - I played heavily from 2007-2009, up until my daughter was born and I had to give up Dominions in order to sleep! Now it's 2013 and I have another daughter on the way, so seems I'l have to wait another 10 years to get back into it, but like a first true passionate love, Dominions 3 is always in my heart...

Excellent fantasy game. So very detailed. Reading the manual is a must but very rewarding if you give it a chance.

This review is written by someone who just discovered and played the game this year (2013)

How shall I explain it? Dominions 3 is like Total War with different mythical creatures (like the giants of jotun, necromancers, centaurs, and much much more) minus the building aspect/tech research/ability to give your troops command in the battlefield. In Dominions 3 you play as one of the deities who strive to be the "one true god" above all the others. You get to choose from the numerous factions through out the ages and each faction really plays differently. You could customize your deity as a Super Combatant deity (mighty mythical creatures like the scorpion king or a Dragon) or a magic reliant/support deity like the enchantress or the celestial general (has the ability to get troops per turn). The game also gives you the option to research different spells from conjuring a fire drake to burning your enemies with fireballs. Each commander/hero/deity has the ability to craft magical items that they could equip in order to aid them in battle or improve their skills.

The game is divided into the strategic map (map of the whole world) and the battlefield map where you could see the battle between you and your enemies. You could not command your troops in the battlefield but you could arrange their formation and give them specific orders before battle like telling your commander to stay behind the troops or your mages to bombard your enemies with fireballs.

The game is a really great and complex game and I am at a loss trying to explain everything because there are a lot of things that are great in this game. Please try the demo and don't be scared of the price because it is really worth it!! Take it from someone who is spoiled by graphics and modern conveniences, I love this game despite it not being eye candy. It is the best fantasy strategy I ever played since Heroes of MIght and Magic 2
