The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

Demo bug.

There is currently a bug in the demo that makes the screen turn red after 20 turns. The demo will be updated to get rid of that as soon as Desura approves the new demo.

would love to enjoy the demo, but no matter what i do i cant get around the red screen error that doesnt seem to be covered in any of the forums(for me its happening only if im sending troops to attack and ending the turn, happens RIGHT after that).. found a couple of cases of it happening to someone else but there wasnt an answer for either of them..

I use windows 7, nvidia gtx 460 and plenty of memory.. already checked out whats recommended for this software wise as well(basic as it gets too...), it doesnt make sense that im getting such a game breaking error from a 30$ indie game.. and it's past alpha?.. would of felt like an idiot spending 30$ on something that came out in 2006 and finding out i still have to deal with that.. so thanks for the demo at least... other then that game breaking issue, honestly seemed great.. 30$ great?... mmm.. no. even with out the red screen... but thats obviously just my opinion.. apart from the whining about the price i dont want to seem like im just ranting but that is a game breaking issue to try and play with. moving on now :p

That does sound like the copy protection screen. It should not be in the demo. After taking a quick look it turns out I forgot to remove the key check when making the updated demo. So you will always get a red game after 20 turns. I'll fix it, but it ususally takes a few days for Desura to approve it.

Does anyone know if this version comes with a copy of the much-acclaimed manual?

deadfolk found it, but just for the community's information: the manual can be found in PDF form in the doc folder after you have untarred Dominions 3 (at least in linux, not sure about other OSs).

D'oh! Okay, I just read the description on the game page, and it says it does.

Please ignore me...there's nothing to see here.

The manual is very out of date anyway, due to years of patching, additions, and improvements.

The manual still contains a lot of important and relevant information about how to play the game, and almost all of it is still valid and correct. So it is still well worth consulting during play, and I know it's rare that my manual is ever allowed to gather dust.

Although there are a few errors in the manual, and quite a lot of omitted information. Especially regarding the game mechanics. Which is what has generally led to the negative rumours about the manual being out-of-date and of little use now. Which is not true IMO.

The fan community has also done a great job in both correcting any manual errors, and filling in as many of the missing gaps about the game mechanics as they can. And like with just about everything else regarding the game, if anyone does have any questions, then please don't hesitate to ask them on the forum.

Since IW very nicely posted the manual on their site I just wanted add to Cal's comments by saying that a fun part of the manual is the section that gives background on the various nations and comments by one of the developers as to influences on nations or group of nations (note that unless the manual has been updated this won't include the nations that were added in patches after the initial release).

It's awesome!

Hundreds of different units. Dozens of Nations to play.
A mind boggling amount of spells to cast.
Equip your summoned Angels, Deamons or other monsters with different items you have forged.
Sacrifice slaves to perform the most vile of magics: Blood magic.
Etc. etc.....

And all these options do not even include the hundreds of mods that have been made by the community.

If you like GRAND strategy games you should definitely check this out.
