The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

The Dominions 3 Event List is a spreadsheet that lists all the events in Dominions 3. The spreadsheet is provided in both Open Office and Microsoft Excel format. It lists the following information:

  • Whether the event is good or bad
  • Event rarity (common, uncommon, rare)
  • Event type (gold, gems, army, attack, assassination etc)
  • What is required for the event to happen (scales, the presence of certain units, specific season etc)
  • Effects of the event (amount of gold, gems or units, attack on province, effects on dominions strength, scales etc)

The event list has two different lists in order to provide the maximum flexibility of use. The summary page contains the event text, requirements and effects in a condensed form that is easy to read. The raw event data page contains a more detailed breakdown of the events in a manner similar to the Dominions 3 DB.

The glossary page of the spreadsheet explains the various terms and requirements and how they work, but some additional explanation here will make it easier to use the list.

SCALE REQUIREMENTS

  • Scale requirements that list [scale](0) or [scale](-1) mean that the event requires that scale to be present to the indicated level. For example, req_scale Death(0) means the event can happen if there Death 1, 2 or 3 or neutral scales, but cannot happen if there is Growth 1 or greater. Similarly req_scale Turmoil(-1) means that the event can happen if there is any Turmoil scale, neutral scale or Order 1, but cannot happen if there is Order 2 or Order 3.
  • Events with scale requirements happen according to the scales present in the province before hosting the current turn, so any events or spells that affect scales in the province that take place during that turn have no effect on the event. For example, if an event requires Luck 3 and during the same turn someone casts three Rain of Toads at the province, the spells will push the scales from Luck to Misfortune, but they will only do so during hosting so the Luck 3 event will happen. In order for the spells to prevent the Luck 3 event, they should have been cast one turn before the event would have happened.

SEASONAL EVENTS

  • Seasonal events are restricted to happening during particular seasons (sometimes more than one season). However, events that happen at the last month of a season will only manifest their effects on first month of the next season.
  • This is because the event happens in e.g. Late Winter and the turn is hosted and the orders processed, the affected player will only get the message about event effects in Early Spring. The message list at the beginning of the turn tells the player what happened during the previous turn, i.e. it is historical informaton. It can lead to some confusion and may seem like buggy behavior, but it is working exactly as it should.

MULTIPLE SIMILAR EVENTS

There are many seemingly duplicate events that have the same outcomes, but often the requirements for these events are different. The rarity of the event may also vary. There are two events that give a free gold mine in a mountain province. One event is uncommon and requires Luck 2. The other event is rare and does not require Luck. Similarly there are many disease and snowfall events with different requirements.
