The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

I've found Calahan's list of mercenaries to be a useful reference and thought it would be worthwhile to repost here on Desura. Note that everything below is Calahan's work. I've used red text for any additions I made.

Unit numbers for both commanders and troops are in brackets. This was confirmed by recruiting the various mercenary units under Dom version 3.28 without any mods enabled. Mercenary troupes 9 (Eternal Knights) and 23 (Madam Fortuna) haven't come up in testing so I've used EricM's extracted data from Dom 3.15. These two are likely the same but no guarantees.

--------------------------

Since this has been asked for several times on the forum, especially by new players to the game, here is a list I've compiled of all (I hope) the Mercenaries available in the vanilla version of the game.

Notes.
- The title of this post is designed to make it as easy as possible to find with the search function.
- I have indicated any extra abilities above the expected norm which I think are useful to know about. eg. "Black Bone's Pirates"

Commander has the Sailing Ability. These notes are very limited though, and will be expanded in future versions of this list.
- Any magic paths on a commander will be listed in the (brackets) after the commander unit name.
- I have not yet indicated with a unit id number which exact troop comes with each group. eg. Heavy Infantry could be one of several.

This is another job for later versions of the list!
- It would appear that certain mercenaries only appear in certain ages. eg. "Otto the Great" seems to only appear in Early Age. I've marked the mercenaries I think this applies to, although it needs further testing or confirmations to be sure this is the case.

If anyone spots any mistakes (very likely) or if I've left any out (less likely) can they please let me know. Also, if there are any extra abilities which I've left out which I should have considered as important but didn't.

Thanks for porting Valerius. Hadn't done it myself yet as wanted to update it with unit ID's (so that you know what number to Shift-U into a battle to check out what troops you're hiring), and my Dom-time has been too thin on the ground for months to get it done.

Although there is an old saying where I come from (well only about 60 seconds old actually but never mind the details) which goes something like:

"He who decides to bring the cows over to the new field to graze must also do all the leg work to help make their new field better than their old one"

Or something like that :)

It would be handy to me if the mercs could be marked when the units are NOT used anywhere else in the game.
That would mark mercs that could be modded

No problem, I can look those up and add them to the list.

That seems like a trickier request. I'm guessing I'd need a list of all the recruitable unit types, the indie unit types, and maybe more? If you have this info available I'd be willing to compare it against the list of merc units I gather but I don't know that I'll be motivated enough to gather all that info on my own. Unless there's an easier way to do this that I'm missing?

I don't buy it. I will never believe that a saying from where you come from references cows instead of sheep. And since sheep wil graze anywhere the saying doesn't make any sense.

If you have to resort to made up sayings to argue your point for you, make sure to think them through, will you? :)

Ok, unit numbers have been added (see note on OP about a couple that didn't come up in testing).

The list seems outdated for example I quote form a single game:
Brave Breakers - 30 Heavy Crossbowman (not Fantassin)
William's Boys - Copy of Brave Breakers.
The Merry Men - 30 Archer Prot 14, Def 10 (at experience level 1)

Yeah I don't know how provide the id. It's with version 4.03.

Would be nice to have an update. :D

EDIT:
Error that's the wrong place, it's dom3 and I was looking for dom4. Can't find it.
