The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly, killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control. No one believes they exist. No one but you.

About Deus Ex: Revision with 44 comments by Jerion on Jun 24th, 2015

Hello all!

Production on Revision 1.0 is finished. Some of you are wondering why we aren’t shipping yet. We’re addressing that today.

A while back we started incorporating tech into Revision that was a step beyond what anyone had ever done with this game. We implemented engine-level bug fixes and tweaks for the game’s rendering system, such as allowing decals (e.g. bullet holes) to appear in mirrors, ensuring footstep sounds occurred correctly, and increasing the limits for BSP geometry to ensure that our environments could be more detailed and more stable. We started using portions of what has been named the Revision Framework (so named because we led to its creation, not because it is exclusive to the inner workings of our project), a piece of tech that makes it relatively easy to expand on the game’s content and systems. We are quietly working on RF, intending for it to be released to the DX modding community.

Concerning the game's content, we have tied in continuity threads to the official entries in the franchise in the form of emails, logos, and other references. We also discovered some potential copyright problems in both our in-game and promotional graphics; we’ve been very busy reworking things to make sure those don’t become troublesome later on.

All of this lead us to feel extremely cautious- we want to ensure that when we release, there are no potential land mines waiting for us. So we approached Square Enix with the intent of making sure that everything we had planned was going to be fine. They’ve been very helpful and supportive; the processes has gone on longer than anyone anticipated, and we're taking advantage of the time to implement little fixes and bits of polish that were otherwise slated for the 1.1 update. On the one hand, we would love to get Revision out the door ASAP. On the other, we’re committed to making sure that we can release it and maintain it in the best possible way, and with as few stumbles as possible.

Thank you for your continuing support and patience. We almost have everything in place. And the satellites are ours when we need them.

This is my 4th fav game so far next to:

1: Half-Life 2
2: Half-Life
3: Mount & Blade

The single-player game is HUGE, i mean play through it in god mode, noclip to the end of the levels right away and it would still take you over a day to beat huge... Yea, that huge. And all the choices in gameplay are great. The editor is the 2nd easiest editor to learn and use (Next to Hammer-Source, btw Hammer-Source is curiously similar to the Doom 3 editor... hmm) in my opinion.

Dragonlord ther ar CRPGs wher you can win without any violents. Arcanum is one i know you can win with out killing anything and i have heard that Fallout 2 also can be compleated without any combat but i have not tested that. It will however not be easy to compleat ether Arcanum or Fallout 2 without killing anything. But it would not be a fun game if it was not chalenging would it? :)

"RPG" doesn't mean lots of stats, and dragons and crap. RPG means choice. Choice of how to accomplish goals, how to develop your character, choice of who you are in the game.

This game has RPG elements to it, but its not a CRPG. It just another FP shooter game, a good one at that.

i would say it is a mix of FPS and RPG. rpg means roleplay, means developing a character and play with it like you want.
tell me an rpg where you REALLY can choose to play a game either the violent or non violent way and grow... if you are honest... there is none.

deus ex is just not a plain rpg because they sux... this special mix is what makes it the greatest game i've ever played, no doubt.

Deus Ex is a great game, don't get me wrong, but some people mistakenly call it an RPG. Just because it has some stats that increase does not make an RPG. A real RPG allows you to do what it says: ROLEPLAY (i.e. 1) You can do what you want, like in Morrowind, instead of HAVING to complete a mission in order to progress, and 2) you're not forced to be a pre-defined individual). But then again, there's Dungeon Siege and Knights of the Old Republic, but anyway that's at least what a tabletop RPG is.

So?

And by the way, I played System Shock 2 recently, and boy is it an awesome game :D It reminds me a teeny bit of Deus Ex, but mostly of Fallout. SS2 is really scary :) My only problems with it are the low-poly models that deform uglily, and the lacking physics. But I'd rate it 96% :)

System Shock 2 is like Fallout because of the items, I guess, and the item descriptions. For instance, the Cola: When you look at the description of it, it mentions the two cola 'mega-corporations' whose names it is illegal to mention. Their competetion has always been fierce but recently it has become hired mercenaries... Hah! Great stuff :D It's that kind of stuff that makes a game good.

Oh, and DX is alright too, I guess
