Defy Gravity is a core action platformer that is a mix between Super Mario style platforming, Braid and Portal 2d. Kara, our heroine, has access to a unique gameplay mechanic that she uses to manipulate the world around her. Kara has a gun that is able to alter the laws of physics through the creation of pockets of gravity and anti-gravity. By mastering the use of these abilities Kara is able to augment her jump in order to almost fly past obstacles. These powers can also be utilized to move objects that block her path and platforms that Kara stands on in order to traverse the levels.

After a long search Kara has found an ancient alien monument. When she enters the ruins, its security system activates and Kara must utilize her unique equipment and abilities in order to move deeper into the monument.

Did this always require Steam to run?

To answer my own question somewhat, it's DRM-free on GamersGate. How annoying that it requires Steam here.

The version on gamersgate is out of date. Unfortunately there is no up to date patched version that does not require steam.

Wow.

So you've abandoned those customers? Nice.

All of those customers are entitled to free steam keys. The problem is that engrained pieces of steamworks code exist throughout the code base and at this point it would be prohibitively difficult to remove them.

Ah, sorry. I take back the abandonment thing but as someone who doesn't use Steam any more I'd still feel pretty abandoned and ****** off if I'd bought this back then.

I have seen lots of games with Steamworks integration that function without being run through Steam. I don't mean a separate non-Steam version, I mean the Steamworks integrated version running fine just without achievements and so on. I obviously don't know a thing about the insides of your game so maybe you implemented them differently. I just know it is possible to make a single build of a game that supports Steam features but can run independently.
