the idea for how the ships go together is pretty much exactly like galactic civilizations but i am amazed at how quickly everything comes out. its like the games mostly done its stuff is just released on a slow drip lol. so cool

No you can't, hangar bays are a component of the "side"-type. There will be a separate carrier capital ship class though, which might have hangar noses at the front.

kinda sad i would have liked to put hangers on pertty much all sides. front back sides underbelly upperbelly or uk top of ship lol

You can put them on the sides as well as on the top and bottom(with the right spine component). Just not at the front and back.

It's actually 8 directions with the current spines :) Just not to the front or back, because that's where other spine components go.
