October Update

Lots of debugging and polishing this month, it getting close to a ship-able FP release! So here's what happened in October:

*Savegame backward compatibility fully functional. This allow me to do minor changes to the data being saved without invalidating previous savegames.
*Savegame release/debug build compatibility. Allows me to load a saved game from a release build into a debug build to investigate bugs much more easily.
*Compress save game data. With the backward compatibility feature in, the save game file became very large. Compressing the data fix the problem.
*added SSL compatibility in the launcher/patcher app.
*Added a visual meter to show the amount of resources secured to build a station/component in the tooltip when hovering over the building part.

*Added Space Ration in the first colony so your population doesn't die while you are figuring out the game

*Cleaned the tech tree of placeholders and re-balanced it slightly

Bug fix:
*Fixed a bug with transport orders
*Fixed several bugs that would get some objects deleted twice.
*Fixed bug where objects not from storage got deleted when unloading a game
*Fixed several GUI bugs
*Fixed pointer to UI object would get saved in savegame file.

Current task:
*The launcher/patcher app needs to ask for a game key to be able to download and install the full game.

Near future task:
*Moving player profile folder (including savegames) into the “Documents\My Games”
*adding version number in save game.
*cleaning Perforce depot so I can easily sync to any patch release (useful for debugging)
*Playing music
*adding missing SFX
*More bug hunting/fixing

You can preorder it on their site, however bear in mind it is fairly pricey, but I can understand that at the moment preorder money goes directly into development.

Anyways, mining planetoids sounds like an interesting idea and while I don't know what ideas you have floating around for cracking them open. Might I suggest a vessel, armed with something equivalent to a pile driver, using a large elongated piece of metal pointed at the tip so that it can pierce the crust, not sure if that's doable in engine but other than massed fire power (which you already pointed out) I've got nothing.
