October Update

News 0 comments

Lots of debugging and polishing this month, it getting close to a ship-able FP release! So here's what happened in October:

Features:
*Savegame backward compatibility fully functional. This allow me to do minor changes to the data being saved without invalidating previous savegames.
*Savegame release/debug build compatibility. Allows me to load a saved game from a release build into a debug build to investigate bugs much more easily.
*Compress save game data. With the backward compatibility feature in, the save game file became very large. Compressing the data fix the problem.
*added SSL compatibility in the launcher/patcher app.
*Added a visual meter to show the amount of resources secured to build a station/component in the tooltip when hovering over the building part.

*Added Space Ration in the first colony so your population doesn't die while you are figuring out the game

*Cleaned the tech tree of placeholders and re-balanced it slightly

Bug fix:
*Fixed a bug with transport orders
*Fixed several bugs that would get some objects deleted twice.
*Fixed bug where objects not from storage got deleted when unloading a game
*Fixed several GUI bugs
*Fixed pointer to UI object would get saved in savegame file.

Current task:
*The launcher/patcher app needs to ask for a game key to be able to download and install the full game.

Near future task:
*Moving player profile folder (including savegames) into the “Documents\My Games”
*adding version number in save game.
*cleaning Perforce depot so I can easily sync to any patch release (useful for debugging)
*Playing music
*adding missing SFX
*More bug hunting/fixing

So, we are going to release a 64bit version for sure, 32bit is uncertain. Our current debug builds do run as 32bit, but maintaining two different releases is more work. If many people demand a 32 build built, it might be done, otherwise Stephanie won't bother maintaining an additional target.

You should chose them divide the team for both release (of course you can always wait some time after releasing the 64 bits version) for bugchasing, also you can use the always useful bugchasing players to help on it (centralize on game destroyer bugs firist, and in glitchs later) and in the forums (that you will need to create to centralize the mod comunity that will surely spawn around this game) maybe create a diferent folder for both versions (unless its get compatible trought some program :D)

32bit is backwards 64bit is the future why go backwards when we should go forwards?. Besides people will upgrade if they want to play games that are 64bit.

Looks really good especially with customizing and constructing your own ship designs. That's very hot.

Damn! I really wish I knew how to do coding or modelling or SOMETHING. There's so many mods and games I would love to help people with. This game especially.
