“A deserted island…a lost man…memories of a fatal crash…a book written by a dying explorer.” Two years in the making, the highly anticipated Indie remake of the cult mod Dear Esther arrives on PC. Dear Esther immerses you in a stunningly realised world, a remote and desolate island somewhere in the outer Hebrides. As you step forwards, a voice begins to read fragments of a letter: "Dear Esther..." - and so begins a journey through one of the most original first-person games of recent years. Abandoning traditional gameplay for a pure story-driven experience, Dear Esther fuses it’s beautiful environments with a breathtaking soundtrack to tell a powerful story of love, loss, guilt and redemption. Winner of 2012 IGF Excellence in Visual Art. Supported by Indie Fund.

We're excited to announce that Dear Esther is now 50% off (UPDATE: now 75% off!) as part of the Steam Summer Sales, not only that but you can also grab the Game + Soundtrack bundle for 75% off too!

Highest Rated (10 agree) 10/10
A word of warning, this is definitely not for everyone, I can imagine someone downloading it thinking there would be a lot of action, but there is not. The game contains breathtaking vistas and other sights, the visuals is absolutely astonishing. I first thought that this game would only run with 30 fps on my computer, but the game ran surprisingly well, I don't think I had a single (visible) framedrop. If I had to give some criticism to the game, it would be the story and the way it is presented…

This game is not a game and the game length is almost as long as a movie. It's not worth the price tag for such a remake like this and should have deserved watching this through YouTube without the need to walk and play through a boring tale without the usual purpose of gameplay.

Oh yay, yet another original "Dear Esther sucks" argument contingent on a nerd's opinion on how beauty has some sense of objectivity. Lol.
I can't wait to buy this, I played the Mod a while ago and loved the way it told the story. It was a nice change from all the explosions and stuff. Remember kids, to be a hardcore gamer you need to play and understand every type of game, not just generic first person shooters.
(buried)
actually to be a hardcore gamer you need to play them as methodically and efficiently as possibly regardless of genre.. since this isnt a game there is nothing hard core about it. you may as well play hidden object games hard core, since those arent games either. it has nothing to do with explosions, consoles, ADD, or anything like that. it is just a very morose and boring application. im guessing if you are alone constantly and think about things like being dead alot it may have some appeal, to healthy well adjusted people.... not at all.
i dont intend to let you kids turn this into "only dumb people dont like this game". the fact is only people with no taste and even less reflexes could enjoy this boredom and loneliness simulator. while a cultured and active mind will be bored to death by it.
*Woosh*
Ahh, I love this game (got it on steam), this is a refreshing view on the video-game genre, although, you have to be a bit more mature than others to grasp this game
There is no point in arguing. Not liking it is not liking it, and not getting it is not getting it, and neither invalidates it except to you.
the story is (as far as i could tell) weak too! thats coming from someone who enjoys foreign films like orpheus and likes to read biographies!
its just filth hoping to hit the art niche (and real good art can only exist 100+ years after creation, jackson pollock for example was a mental case not an artist). its weak as a story, the graphics may look "ok" to some people but on a high end system that plays most games in 3d i assure you it looks no better than the majority of mainstream games (certainly no better than hard reset) particularly because there is so little going on, and the "gameplay" is non existent, how can it indeed be "good" if it fails on every level in its chosen medium?
trying to debase me for calling a turd a turd is the wrong approach, the correct one would be to simply say that you LIKE turds.
I can't think of any way to say this without sounding condescending:
Many respected critics, whose opinions have been consistently validated throughout their careers, agree that this is an excellent, even incredible game. One angry neckbeard attempts to use logic to argue that his opinion is, in fact, fact, and all those critics, and all those people who enjoyed it are morons for doing so.
You're living in a fantasy land, man. You will never convince those who enjoy the title that it is bad, unless they are exactly the impressionable suck-ups you denigrate. I am not debasing you; you are debasing yourself.
You want to use logic as a basis for argument, yet your entire argument is based on a ridiculous logical fallacy: that your opinion is right, and that everybody who disagrees with you is inherently wrong, for that simple fact.
And rest assured, in an argument as to the value of any medium, particularly a story or graphical work, there exist only facts in relation to punctuation, sentence structure; graininess, choppiness....not "good" or "bad." Those two qualities are based solely on an individual's enjoyment of it.
Also, the statement that good art can only exist one hundred plus years after creation is absurd.
Stop arguing about it. You are accomplishing nothing.
respecting career critics is your first mistake. they are there to sell games. this isnt even a game. as a gamer, this sucks. the "fact" that so few games are made for gamers anymore does **** me off, they would rather make some trash like this or a new hidden object game every day that retards and housewives can "win" at and say "oh that was a good game!" should make all gamers angry. crap apparently sells. atleast myst had puzzles (much as i hated that game)! this is nothing but boring. as a time wasting app this may very well be a roaring success but as a GAME it is crap.
real art withstands the test of time, i dont see how anything under 100 years old can be called art. also im not the one necroing the conversation 2 days later.
My part in this argument is done.
