“A deserted island…a lost man…memories of a fatal crash…a book written by a dying explorer.” Two years in the making, the highly anticipated Indie remake of the cult mod Dear Esther arrives on PC. Dear Esther immerses you in a stunningly realised world, a remote and desolate island somewhere in the outer Hebrides. As you step forwards, a voice begins to read fragments of a letter: "Dear Esther..." - and so begins a journey through one of the most original first-person games of recent years. Abandoning traditional gameplay for a pure story-driven experience, Dear Esther fuses it’s beautiful environments with a breathtaking soundtrack to tell a powerful story of love, loss, guilt and redemption. Winner of 2012 IGF Excellence in Visual Art. Supported by Indie Fund.

We're excited to announce that Dear Esther is now 50% off (UPDATE: now 75% off!) as part of the Steam Summer Sales, not only that but you can also grab the Game + Soundtrack bundle for 75% off too!

A word of warning, this is definitely not for everyone, I can imagine someone downloading it thinking there would be a lot of action, but there is not. The game contains breathtaking vistas and other sights, the visuals is absolutely astonishing. I first thought that this game would only run with 30 fps on my computer, but the game ran surprisingly well, I don't think I had a single (visible) framedrop. If I had to give some criticism to the game, it would be the story and the way it is presented…

This game is not a game and the game length is almost as long as a movie. It's not worth the price tag for such a remake like this and should have deserved watching this through YouTube without the need to walk and play through a boring tale without the usual purpose of gameplay.

I'm going to delete any further comments which either contain racist, sexist, homophobic or other bigoted terms in them, or use the term 'rape'. We will happily chat and discuss with people about the process of going commercial (and see the Podcast17 interview this weekend) but these are not acceptable and I'm not going to tolerate them. If you think being asked to pay for a computer game is like 'rape' you need to get some perspective. Dan
Oh Yay!
I'd Gladly give you my money for such a beautiful thing.
I always feel bad getting all these free high quality mods.
Yeah I feel like Pirating sites are taking over.. I hope this game gets the moneys worth and doesn't get pirated. It looks like an "Amazingly atmospheric masterpiece." That is my review of the video and pictures.
Keep it coming, Dan. Its amazing.
I knew this was too good to be true.
When I first heard about this mod back last year I saw these screens and said:
"HOLY ****. HOW THE HECK ARE THEY NOT GETTING PAID FOR THIS KIND OF WORK?!"
Pretty sweet that they're going indie. They deserve to get some cash for the work they put into this.
First day buy for me really. I liked the first one a lot.
tracking tracking!!!!
release this year?
Again a big congrats about going Indie, and there was me worrying about downloading episode 2 again to have it in time as steam is so slow at uni :p
This is such great news and its great you will get some cash for all your hard work.
Some of the comments here and on MODDB are very shameful.
How are you going spread DE?
It will be available on Steam - is that what you meant? Dan
Somehow I`ve got some cash and gonna get it as soon as you`ll share up.
Still I Hope there will be any other way to buy it instead of Steam system.
Keep up great work guys.
It's getting a commercial release.
