News - January

First off, we hope everybody had a great New Year! I believe at this year in time, we have had our 5th year anniversary for modding DOW. :) 2 years ago (12/20/12) we also released the Grand Release version 1.7!!! How about that for some good news? :) We got some good news and bad news, listing them in easy detail:

The Ultimate Apocalypse mod made top 7 of 20,000 mods!!!

So now...

Good News:

The mod is almost done to be in our final testing stages. All races are done, all AI is done, icons and polish is almost done (except for a few things), gameplay core was long done a while ago, our intended to be released content is all done. Bugs to be fixed: Almost done. Balance, wincondition insertions, bug fixes, and the final testing stages is all that is left to do (and polishing of new content). We could release a changelog right now this very second, but as the bad news follows...

Bad News:

We have to re-redo an entire faction, the Inquisition Daemonhunters. The Inquisition kinda needed a re-remake over because the race was too complicated for new players to get used to. The Inquisition is now being reworked at this time, will be easier to understand, more awesome, and their content is being remade. This could take a while or it will only take maybe 1-2 weeks to do. Who knows? This is why we test the mod in alpha stages privately. If there is something the crowd will not like, we'll eventually take care of it.

As for the next grandest Release (status):

All percentages are not based on a mathematical equation and are made up by the feel of completion by the developer. 100% completed could take as little as a day or as big as several months to accomplish.

*also many different kinds of other races aswell, like imperial guard, eldar and orks, i dont know if tau and dark eldar do. I know for fact crons dont tho.

Ya 3500 dollars is costly, but its the most used Program for making things. I bet they use it to make most things in x-box 360 games, and ps3 games.

As for games you should get for your x-box 360, i wouldnt know because i dont have one, i have a ps3. But two you should get for sure (if you dont already have them) are Gears of War, and Halo 2. Ive played halo 2 and can say its a good game, as for Gears of War, ive heard many good things about, and some bad things, but more good than bad. Its pretty much only the online pla that has bad stuff about it. And halo 2 is just good inpaticular offline and online... except for Screaming elmos, there quite annoying ;)


p.s. i have no idea for what kind of map you could make :'( Sorry

Sure, you could consider us friends, and to take screenshots of your map, while your in the program press "print Scr" (a button on your keyboard somewhere) and open paint, then go up to the top and press edit, then paste. Then just save your pic and do what ever with it. If you want to send it to me, send it through email, my email is cody_bourgeois@hotmail.com. O and heres a tip, to make map making a WHOLE lot easier, press "ctrl+f", and "ctrl+k", this will turn the fog off, and the sky, making it eaiser to see your map while you make it. Just press them again to turn if back on.

I am with two other mappers in the Map Makers Mod team, if you want to distribute your maps, then a good place is dowfiles.com, or dawnofwar.filefront.com, there both the same place ;) just click the link on the side of the page that says "submit files" and read the instructions, then do them and they'll put your map up for other people to download.

to change the sound of your men walking in water, click the icon on the left of the impass editor, and it should say "cover" or "footfall" (or something like that), change it to cover, then foot fall again (theres a little gllitch that starts it in the cover spot, but the options it gives are for footfall. Then you should get some options like "water", "dirt", "rock", "grass", and "uknown", just click the one you want, then choose the part of that map you wan your guys to make the sound of on. About the water. In your heightmap editor, there should be an option that it "set value", then a little further down the side, change the option "level" i think it is, to "chest-high water", "waste high water" ect. but dont put deep water, becasue it is impassable.

Hope this helped some, but it might be a little confusing because like i previously said, i suck at explaining things ;)

For 6 years now I have been playing Dawn of War. Modding it gave me that extra plus.

8/10 because it is a really good game. I am however ashamed that Relic stopped at Soulstorm.

10/10 because I always experienced something new in it.

7/10 for Dark Crusade and Soulstorm campaign

10/10 for your epic stories and hard work combined.

So much more could have been done, that was ignored during development.
Betas should of had more input.

Only saving grace is that there is a Modding community with which to complete the incomplete game... :(
