Darkness is a linear (with optional side-quests) first-person Horror Adventure game. Six people over the prior month have gone missing from a hotel. You, a hired detective, have been brought in to investigate. Only problem is, this investigation will be a bit more than you bargained for. The setting is in the early 1920s. World War 1 just ended, prohibition just got added as the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution. The world is in a frenzy and you're at the thick of it, dealing with possibly one of the most unique cases you've ever had. Will you - Can you survive the darkness?
Demon Prowler is working on the fps hands (at the moment about 6 hours into it). I decided to give modeling and texturing a shot myself and made this flashlight. What do you all think? I have considered upping the poly count around the edges, but am not certain if I should or shouldn't.
By the way, this is replacing the lantern, so you'll be seeing it a lot. Keep that in mind.
... Wow. I'm sure partially it's incredimazing because it's rendered out-of-engine, but it's still incredimazing. Awesome texture job, awesome modeling job. Poly count looks absolutely fantabulous to me.
I swear you're secretly /sarcasm-ing me lol. I personally don't like it, but you're not going to be seeing the build really at all (which is the worst part I think). It's only about 350 polygons, I'm probably going to up it to around 800 or so to smooth out the edges a bit.
The bulb that is*
No that texture work is nice. Why up it to 800 though? It looks great as it is...
Well, I was doing a test for when the flashlight is in-front of the camera, using a WIP of the hands to hold it. You can visibly see the low poly count. I upped it to 640 though, and you can barely tell now. Looks pretty smooth.
Man now that flashlight is unreal !
i can't imagne how powerfull it would be.
It won't be powerful. We're talking about the 1920s here. The portable battery pack for them was just invented a few years prior (1914). Lightbulbs were also relatively new for that matter. It's big because of the limited technology, not a very powerful flashlight though.
Definitely liking it, especially the aged/ vintage-y look it has about it
Hehe it looks.. funny. Really nice, though. And it could use a bit more tris. If it's going to be a first person model, why not just model it as nice as you want, as long as it stays under, say, 3000 tris? First person models are generally 'higher poly'.
It's 674 tris right now, and actually looks very nice in first-person view. I'd post a screen of it, but the hand holding it isn't final yet.
