You’ll be able to play as one of the four people that got trapped inside this haunted hotel. As a survivor your main objective will be finding your way out, as well as helping your fellows get out too. You’ll often find yourself on the edge, hearing and seeing ghostly things, trying to find keys and items to help in your escape. And sometimes you’ll find yourself running desperately from a monster, who’s there only to hunt down and kill you and your friends. You’ll also be able to play as the monster. You’ll assume an ethereal form, which you’ll use to haunt the survivors, triggering eerie noises and events. You’ll also assume a physical form, which will allow you to hunt and kill the survivors trapped in the hotel. It’ll be your killing spree. I try to launch Damned after the most recent update. Wouldn't run. So I completely uninstalled, and reinstalled Desura and the game, and still, no dice. This is what I get from the cmd prompt:

Imgur.com

I really have no idea how to fix this. Also, I tried poking around in the main folders to find a config file, but couldn't even find that. Any help would be really appreciated.

I only get this error when I double click the game twice
anyway, try this
Go to your game application, (Damned.exe) right click and select properties > compatibility; Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution
tell me if this worked for you

Nope, no dice. Still didn't work. I'm really at a loss here.

Check if your drivers are up-to date otherwise try to run it in opengl. READ BELOW
Create a shortcut of the game and right click and select properties
You'll see in the box "Target", type in -opengl after damned.exe" (-opengl)
Like this (for you)
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\damned\Damned.exe" -opengl
Run as adminstrator.
If this doesn't work I am not sure how to fix this for you :S

EDIT:
I also dont have a config file, not sure why.

I've just tried that as well, and still, the same cmd box pops up, any key, then crash. I'm really not sure at this point. Also curious as to why there is no config file. This is really frustrating.

hmm, this is the last thing I know
try with -dx9, -dx10 or -dx11
goodluck.
Wait til the developers seeing this thread if it aint working

None of that helped either. Guess I'll just have to wait for more developer input.

Bumping this as I have the same issue.

That's the error that pops up. I have tried:

- Verifying integrity of files and redownloading missing files.
- Complete uninstall and reinstall.
- Updating video drivers to latest version from current version.
- Uninstalling video drivers and reinstalling to latest version.
- Run in 640x480 compatibility.
- Restarted my computer in between doing most of these in case someone wondered.

Apparently the way the Ogre3D engine is being called to initialize video in the game code is coming up short. Not sure how, but hopefully this information gives someone who looks at this a better understanding of the problem and methods already taken to resolve it.
