Cube in an opensource shooter designed to run on systems with lower resources availabe. Cube uses opensource content, as well as a few quake II models, in its game portion. Cube supports both single and multiplayer. Maps can be of both large size and hold a large number of computer AI's. Cube has a large multiplayer community, and maps can be edited in real time cooperatively.
There are several single and multiplayer mapping projects underway, as well as model packs and total conversions.

This game is brilliant. I love the fact the map editor is built right into the game and is insanely easy to use. If you haven't played it yet, you don't know what you're missing! :)
Of course, the upcoming Sauerbraten also looks great, but it's still in its infancy. I'd expect that to be here too, once it reaches maturity.

it's always been free. People who are paying for it are getting ripped off.
I saved my allowance for 5 years and finally got this game for $10, its so worth the money. The graphics are outstanding, gameplay rocks, everything else is GREAT. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS. AHAHaHAH
