You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO Half-Life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.
A cinematic trailer made by Arvuti, one of the mappers for this community campaign. It will be released this thursday! Get ready for it!
Follow us on Facebook, and get pro shit: Facebook.com
I made a map and beta tested the whole thing and I must say this:
You guys will LOVE this.
Of course we will! AoM with CoF? I just can expect insane epicness!
Looks awesome. Hope it won't be entirely made out of cheap screamers and jump scares.
It's much better than the last one. Also there is only one real sawrunner.
but I like jump scares...
Ive played quite a bit to it. I'm at the AoM part and it is almost like the Cof Campaign. And yes, there are poop your pants jumpscares, the good ones, the ones that can hurt you ;) have fun.
"It will be released this thursday! Get ready for it!"
Preparing to be unable to sleep for the next week or so after this Thursday then o_0
There is only one word that can describe this, and it is:
AWESOME!
This trailer was a lot better, and I like the humour at the end. ^__^
Looking forward to this.
Wait, why the hell does the release date say February 8th 2012?! o_0
European date format = day/month/year
this.. is gonna be so awesome!
Total, mindfuck.
I'm kinda excited to see what this CS contains, the title and tone makes it seem like it might be more about Simon's descent into madness, and I can imagine that being pretty cool from both gameplay and narrative standpoints.
In the mod itself it seemed more like Simon was going from bad to worse, rather than from good to bad, so I'd really love to learn more about the character personalities and dynamics prior to the events of Cry of Fear, like what happened to Simon and Sophie.
It's an major improvement since the last collaboration, but still it is mostly a collaction of random maps strung together.
Hmm, okay. That's cool, but I'd love to see more narrative stuff. It might be cool to get writers from the community on board for future collaborations too; if you had good maps a a cohesive story it could be amazing.
I write a little bit, and I've written horror before (although not modern stuff, but I'm reasonably adaptable), for example this one I did for fun, trying to embrace a vaguely Dickensian style; Gazornonplat.deviantart.com)
I'm sure there are other writers in the community too who'd be only too willing to contribute to something like that.
It's not that we're lacking good story ideas, but as we were talking about it, I don't know how much people would like taking assignments. They want complete creative freedom. We'll just have to wait for some more solo campaigns for complete stories.
The closest thing to a complete storyline I've seen has been my campaign, The Hole, which can be dowloaded on the forums and the final version will be released with 1.5.
Oh, I didn't mean any disrespect with regards to the ideas already out there, it's just that map making and writing are very different disciplines, and if things could be organised in a way that suited people it could be a great way to pull more talent from the community. Perhaps people would submit stories and then mappers could vote on them and the best would be made into a campaign, I can imagine something like that working.
I'll keep an eye out for that. Story and thematics are always the things I look most closely at in games, so anything that adds some more exposition to the Cry of Fear universe is awesome.
Having a writer tie all the events together or to flesh out a story to delegate various parts to the mappers is an interesting idea. There's no set rules for how a collab should work, so it's perhaps something we should pursue.
awesome as ever :joebiden:
The only thing I could say was "OH MY F*#$KING JESUS"
And spam the trailer on as many facebook pages as I could remember.
******* Afraid of Monsters in my Cry of Fear.
Today might be my last day on internet, take a look in my blog, I'm writting down the diary I was writing on my tumblr..
Well Biden at the beginning had me loling and replaying the whole video just to make sure i was not seeing things.
Cant wait today is the day!!!!!!!! Gonna be playing it like a baws!!! :D
@gazornonplat - the biggest hypocrite on this mod page and continues to be. Replying to your first comment... the trailer is suddenly nice. Ok, so you whined the first time about it being offensive to people who engage in self-harming yet this trailer still features that segment just made shorter in length and now you go to the opposite end of the spectrum and contradict your beliefs, theories and thoughts by saying it is now nice?!
Before you commented and with a few other people 'interviewed' Rumpel - which was really just nerd rage and petty comments that you call an interview. You were basically just stirring up a fight achieving nothing and you really don't care about the self-harming in society, do you? Incosiderate, jerk and a troll is what you are... really.
It still has the content, so all your arguments and comments are invalid, including your opinon(s). I do not like how you come on here and pretend to be a fan and now lie and say that you think the trailer is nice, when in fact, you have a serious problem.
I don't care who you are, what you think or how big your ego is. Don't pretend to hate something or like something and don't write crappy scary/horror themed pieces. You can spell all you want, throw around all the fancy words and brag about your English skills but really you can't write/construct something so amazing like this and don't use this as a place to share your work or get attention + views.
It makes me sick how you act - hating on someone and using this page to get your way and benefit off others and acting the way you do - your behaviour in general, as an overview, is appalling. I don't care, once again, if your intent was to hoax, stir the pot or troll - you got what you want...
... evidence about you and your friends writing crappy stories and reports on the internet and spamming the page with your illogical fallacies as well as comments + posts and you got what was coming for you... the truth. When I write a comment, you respond or reply or at least have the decency not to hide and cower like you do or retreat to another page and now everyone seeing your childish/kidish behaviour act like another human being/persona.
How sickening... .
Even if you didn't do most of the evil work and you had your henchmen do it, namely 'anjinanhut' I cannot believe that you would have someone write an uncredible and fake interview, at that, about a guy who hasn't offended you in any beforehand or forced you to watch this trailer.
You or your friends, probably you AND them, twist the wording around in that article you and your friends wrote to make RUMPEL look like the bad guy. One question: how has that worked out for you and what have you got from that sour friendship.
Also, how would you like if me and some of my 'friends' came over to your 'Incursion' game and started spamming and saying it preaches dangerous messages and then calling people names. I could make up BS like you too. I don't find that fitting and how in any way have you benefited from this.
Has your game become as popular as Cry of Fear from doing all this - no... is your game to the same standard where all content is free and you expecting nothing in return even though people show up and **** on your hard work and make you want to take it down... no and lastly, if people do decide to write comments - even if they are illogical such as :
'Incursion featuring supernatural elements can psychologically affect young kids' how will you feel even if they are not valid or make any sense and the majority just seem to **** on your game. Maybe you can accept and tolerate constructive criticism but when you suggest that a game is offensive and offer no suggestions as to how to make it inoffensive then your argument, concept(s) and ideas are completely flawed.
I can assure you if a lot of people were coming onto your game and doing that - well there are no comments on the YouTube trailers of your game but if people started doing that you would see how annoying it is and how pretentious it can become. You wouldn't like it and even if you didn't do most of this and your cronies did you are still responsible, just as if I was to send my cronies to **** on your game... I am still responsible.
I wouldn't do that though. Rumpel should not regret his actions as he is not in the wrong... you are. After all you kept on going even with the threat of deletion but within a few days manage to act completely different. I hope you realise what you have done. I actually came across your game not knowing who the author was and some Noir Cube thing came up... now I won't test out or play your so-called 'beta'. How do you feel now?
I'm simply treating you the same way. You didn't play Rumpel's and claimed it was offensive without even playing it first. I am sorry for coming back on here guys but seeing him post something positive after a long-string-of-negative stuff is beyond me, even if he did reconcile with Rumpel on his page. You should've just left and now... you start pretending to be a 'nice guy'... !
