The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO Half-Life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.
I thought it was a really well-made mod with lots of time put into it. The mod is surprisingly long and very smooth considering it's on HL1's engine. Story line was interesting and the ending was unexpected. Audio kept me strapped to my chair with horror ^^
Well, from where i start?
Well, i was looking for half life mods moddb, horror mods as always, and i have see Cry of Fear.
i downloaded it and after playing and playing, i got my review:
Cry of Fear it's not just a mod, it's a fear simulator. The atmosphere it's so scary, making you feel that something gonna jump at you any moment. You got weapons, but, even armed, you feel like a baby seeking for your mother. Full of depression, guilt and suicide, you feel like you are the main character, fighting the fears of you life and the sins of your past.
The monsters are the most disturbing things that i have seen. MY GOD, I GONNA HAVE NIGHTMARES FOR WEEKS. Awesome.
And the custom campaigns of the game make you want to play more, more, and more.
To the team: awesome work! i loved the mod.
Lots of endings. I love that.
That's it. Have been a pleasure to play this awesome game/mod.
Good bye (Sorry for bad english, i'm brazileiro)
Its a bit like Resident Evil in first person. The story is genuinely interesting, I actually care about Simon's well being. There's some great puzzles and the combat is an improvement over the original Half-Life. Ammo is sparse and has to be well rationed on the hard difficulty, which is what I played on.
I recommend playing Afraid of Monsters Director's Cut as well. Its just as good.
Scary and atmospheric game, it's much better than Nightmare House 2 for more technological and andvanced Source Engine, it just beats it at all! Somewhat CoF reminds me the epic Silent Hill series. I played Silent Hill, and I dreamed for a such game but with first-person view. And now my dream realized... Thank you, guys!
