Campaign Competition Results

The 9 months old Campaign Competition has finally reached it's end! The results are here, and we have a winner! The reason it was delayed was due to some conflicts and the work with Cry of fear stand alone.

Watch the video below to find out the scores and the winner of the competition.

New Coop Campaign

This is exactly one of my reasons for using HL1, Source has a habit of looking like HL2 whatever you do with it...

Mmmm. Hopefully They Hunger Lost Souls will scare you.

I should've mentioned that though...Lost Souls -does- look like a good change of pace from the other HL2 mods.

I dunno, Lost Souls still looks a lot like HL2, and it doesn't look very scary (They Hunger never really was TBH).
The only things which don't look like HL2 are Insurgency and "Ham & Jam", both of which are multiplayer :/

There are many good things about Source, but it isn't a very good engine for mod teams. Besides, there are newer and better engines if you want to make something with outstanding graphics

Lost Souls doesn't look too scary, no...and it's still got a hint of HL2 about it, yes...But hey, it's a single-player zombie mod for HL2, and doesn't look nearly as bad and generic as most other HL2 mods do.

I don't know if They Hunger or Lost Souls was really aimed at scaring people (though, you must remember, They Hunger is a somewhat old mod...maybe back then it was a fresh new and spooky experience), maybe a scare here and there; but what is obvious is that both were aimed at giving the horror/ zombie game lover their own little adventure away from the original game story. And really...all that matters in the end is that it's an enjoyable experience. :D

HL2 mods just don't capture the same atmosphere and personality as HL1 mods do...most HL2 mods just feel like a modified clone of at least another HL2 mod in my opinion. Anyways, great work so far. I bet both this and D3ads' Forgotten will be great, hands down. :D

basically, HL1 has tons of crappy singleplayer mods, but it also has loads of good ones, i can name a few instantly. but for HL2, im hardpressed to think of any good singleplayer mods. but if we talk about multiplayer mods, that's where HL2 beats HL1

man i thought the same thing!!! how come none of the source singleplayer mods can give you like a fresh feeling?!

Yeah, hl2 mods always use the ordinary hl2 themes. In hl1 u have a basic mood what different and u can make everything. If i play a hl1 mod i must finish it, but in hl2... "just feel like a modified clone of at least another HL2 mod" =/

Well, HL1 has lots of Black Mesa mods (crap).
HL2 is more of the same.

Seriusly, mod that expand the HL universe are kinda boring

Highest Rated (55 agree) 9/10

The best horror mod I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I spoke with Andreas in a notable interview a few months back and ever since have held an enormous respect for the man and what it is he sees in his projects, in his "horror", and in himself. Cry of Fear has finally launched and with it comes a turning point in open source gaming, modding, creative expression and a revitalization of the almost dead psychological modern horror that we have come to see in Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, Afraid…

Don't get me wrong on this one, regardless of anything I might have stirred up before now, I wanted to like this mod. But you have to realize, yes, it was in development for quite a long time, I've heard 4 years, and they've obviously got talent, but they just didn't use that talent properly, to be brutally honest. I'm not going to complain too much about the jump scares, because you DO need to throw a few at the player, if you want that horror atmosphere to mean anything. But there's such a thing…
