Campaign Competition Results

The 9 months old Campaign Competition has finally reached it's end! The results are here, and we have a winner! The reason it was delayed was due to some conflicts and the work with Cry of fear stand alone.

Watch the video below to find out the scores and the winner of the competition.

64 Bit Patch

Anyone who thinks SS2 is at all scary in any way clearly never played... well, anything.

SS2 has its creepy moments (Hydroponics for example) but honestly? It's not that terrifying.

What are you trying to say? I've played many many games, back in 1999 I bought SS2 when it first came out when I was 15 and it freaked me out big time, since then I've played all the Silent Hill games, Aliens Vs Predator and many more too, I can't think of a single game other than SS2 that actually managed to instill fear in me like it did, I had to stop playing sometimes because I was getting worked up about what was around that next corridor.

Feel free to recommend me games that will scare me more than SS2, I challenge you!

Too many things to go into here, but one word stands out...

Her name strikes fear into many who have been unfortunate to encounter her.

Search through here to find some examples of her spine curdling dialogue;

F.E.A.R. made me jump a lot, but it was about as scary as a My Little Pony advert.

Scariest game? System Shock 2 hands down.

Sporkeh Nov 3 2008, 2:24pm replied:

Pretty much the same, except you'll have to mind the fact that goldsrc only supports 1 weight/vertex. Also, the textures have to be 8-bit and there are limitations on the size.

There is a way to UV split textures to get more texture depth on a model though. A bit more effort than necessary, but it is certainly possible to get alot of detail in the model.

The best horror mod I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I spoke with Andreas in a notable interview a few months back and ever since have held an enormous respect for the man and what it is he sees in his projects, in his "horror", and in himself. Cry of Fear has finally launched and with it comes a turning point in open source gaming, modding, creative expression and a revitalization of the almost dead psychological modern horror that we have come to see in Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, Afraid…

Don't get me wrong on this one, regardless of anything I might have stirred up before now, I wanted to like this mod. But you have to realize, yes, it was in development for quite a long time, I've heard 4 years, and they've obviously got talent, but they just didn't use that talent properly, to be brutally honest. I'm not going to complain too much about the jump scares, because you DO need to throw a few at the player, if you want that horror atmosphere to mean anything. But there's such a thing…
