You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your smses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers. Cry of Fear is a singleplayer modification of Half-Life 1 which brings you the horror you've always been afraid of. It's a total conversion of Half-Life 1, which means it uses NO Half-Life 1 content or other peoples' files. It's all made exclusively by the developers. It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.
Here's another screenshot showing some of the monsters this mod have. Enjoy!
Awesomee o.o
awesome is not enough.
NEED .. TO .. PLAY IT !
They remind me of Michael Myers
i cant help but think of myke meyers when i read that name
man... it totally breaks the terror tension
Hot.
boner
**** in my pants!
Woah, these guys look like anger incarnate. Those faces literally scream "Tear.. apart... all..!!!" Excited to find out how these freaks sound ingame. And oh noes, that hammer looks a bit more threatening then David's. I'm sure that M4 won't protect Simon's life forever.
Awesome screenshot ~
Looks rather pro, going dakka dakka against monsters with an M16 should be hella fun
Wow... SICK !!! Damm i want to kick those zombies *** !
(buried)
This is actually kind of disconcerting. An M16 and hatchet wielding monsters? Way too actiony for my taste. :/
Then don't play it.
Yeah, it's an action mod.
Isnt It like a horror mod to!? :) Tought I like a bit action to In a game not just scares after scares.. That would be a bit boring If you ask me, But thats just my opinion! Anyhow I can't wait to blast some zombie.. Well whatever those things are with the m16.
Please, don't take our comments too serious when we answer unserious to stupid questions. It's of course a horror mod. I just don't see why you call it an action game, while resident evil/silent hill has loads of weapons like that. Rocket launcher, mini-gun, sub machine guns + enemies with the same weapons. Now I'm talking about RE1/2/3 and SH1/2/3.
Don't worry. Intelligent people know when something is sarcasm or not. Because when you hear a few things, you wouldn't ever seriously believe them... Unless of course you really believe everything you are told on the internet.
Well I really didnt take him 100 percent seriously nor was my comment to be honestly! But one thing I actually meant Is that horror games do actually have many action sequences! At Least many that Ive played :P Even your mod before this one Afraid of Monsters had many sequences that I thought was just run and gun fun. Im not saying that this one has It cause yeah Ive never played It, But by the looks of It at least from what I see It has. :)
The thing is, nowdays horror games often drown in too much action. They can still be scary. Anf a few action moments are alright, as long as the main focus is still on horror.
Here, you are a random guy, not familiar with guns, fighting for his life against weird monsters. It's creepy and feels like you are all alone and lost. If you were a soldier with combat experience, it wouldn't feel nearly as scary. You either need to focus on horror alone, or find a good balance between it and action.
But in this game, it's mostly horror. Just shooting with guns is not making it a action game yet. As long as you run away and can easily be killed and etc. it's still pure horror. But there is tons of stuff you can add to that subject.
To put it short, a horror game can contain action scenes. The key is to put them into a scary atmosphere. Like that, you may gun down enemies, but it feels scary. You are not superior, you are desperatly trying to survive.
Well said, But I get the point! I shouldnt have said It that way. What I meant Is that It still can have action elements but still be a horror game! And there sure are many classics out there that are scary as shi* but still have action elements that take the scare factor of for just a moment. However the story and plot dosnt meen much If the elements arent dont right. And as you said many newer horror games have too much action for It to be that scary. But I personally like games like Amnesia where you cant do shi* and your always fearing for what will happen In the next corner! But when I have a gun that feeling disappears just slightly sure I will be scared alot still! But not necessary as much as Ive could have been, Adding this with a ton of other powerful weapons It removes a little more of the scare factor. But I think this Is still okay In this mod as Im sure that you'll have limited amount of ammo and such. And as I said Afraid of Monsters was a really scary game but when I got weapons like the shotgun and such the feeling of being alone and scared disappeared a little. :)
I know what you mean with AoM. I'm currently playing through it again on Hard, and it's so unforgiving. Until you find the shotgun, you feel so helpless. And even with it, on hard the enemies are so tough, you are out of ammo all the time. Until you get the hammer that can kill the twitchers in 2 to 3 hits, you always watch in fear as your ammo counter decreases.
but they kicked serious *** :) talking about RE 1,2 and 4 and silent hill
Resident Evil is definitely action-based horror, whereas Silent Hill is traumatized forever-based horror xD
Resident Evil 4 had that, and then some... and it was extremely popular.
RE4 was a good game and fun to play. Popularity isn't really important, since every person has their own opinion about games. But I wouldn't call RE4 a horror game. It was action-survival, nothing more. It had a few scary moments that I still remember... but it has to much action to be considered a real horror game.
Well, at least it was still more horror then RE5 could ever hope to be.
why this is buried that guy just said his opinion and its a goood thing
Im scared :(
stop, hammer time(zombie)
Real sick! It's interesting that the most creative minds are the most sick ones...
cool!
Wow that is pure awesome
That is amazing! Can't wait for the release!
>.>; Ooooohkay.
I love the body textures and the m16 and stuff, but the faces seem kinda spray painted on in comparison to previous models.
Because I made the faces in about 30 minutes, because I can't be bothered to you know, be gay.
wat
Plus dave, have you not noticed this is a Half-Life 1 mod? There are alot of limits in the GoldSrc engine compared to today's much more modern engines (Even though the Cry of Fear Devs did excellent work on pushing GoldSrc to the limit)
Life in Sweden
the monster on the left is holding a hammer. O_O
That's quite a large muzzleflash for an M16a4. Looking forward to this more than ever.
Yes, it's a little stylized for the sake of interesting visuals, but remember it's a flash. IE, you see it for like a quarter of a second.
I54.tinypic.com
I don't think it's that bad, as James said, it's stylized. Also it's pretty dark so the flash would still be rather visible IRL I reckon.
but u guys gave in mind that not every shot releases flames like that right?
they have chance to be like that or to not release flame at all (just pointing things to make the game better)
Depends on the ammunition used and barrel length.
awesome guys i wish the best luck
Scary as Hell... Between this and UNDERHELL and NH2, my nights are difficult!!!
Fu*k Yeah! Finally some screens showing up the monsters, really wanted to see them!
Karma troll detected.
How mouch do you guys have left until release?
Will these creature **** us with a new IA?
IA? You mean AI? Sorry, I'm a complete grammar Nazi.
