Crea is an easily moddable, 2D sandbox game with a lighthearted mood, colorful art and RPG elements. Drawing on the pioneers of the sandbox genre such as Minecraft and Terraria, Crea features combat and crafting in attractive, randomly-generated worlds for you to explore, tear apart and build back up in your own design.

What sets Crea apart from the others is that it's created with you in mind. It's a game that fully realizes the potential of the community and mods, with every aspect designed to be easy to modify and customize. It's simple to modify characters, weapons, monsters, items, biomes, or to even create new playable races! If you can imagine it, it belongs in the world of Crea!

Crea is currently in beta and is available on Steam Early Access.

For the past two months our team has been working extremely hard on Crea. We’re releasing a major update TODAY, Monday October 27, and you’re invited to the party! At 1 PM PDT, we’ll have a livestream at:

Jasson will be showing off a virtual “tour” of the new update content, introducing all of the new features and updates to the game. Some of the new features in Crea include Steam Workshop support, a new boss (he’s pretty weird), a new monster, new biome, a revamped researching system, many new items and much more. Kelley will be drawing and animating a special Halloween-themed item! This will be followed by a live AMA (Ask Me Anything) segment on the stream, and additional game development.

Ignoring modding for now, is Crea's gameplay lenght driven by its content? Is it finite?

How do worlds work? Is there a single infinite world or are there multiple finite worlds? If its the latter, is there a persistent metagame of any kind to tie together the multiple worlds?

Is there a leveling system or experience points?

The gameplay length is driven by content. We plan to continually add new content and even with a "final boss" we'll still be adding more content on the side. Things like randomly generated dungeons that you can quest on.

Worlds are a single finite size decided upon creation; however, one of the features I plan to add after release is the ability to link other worlds/maps to each other - such as dungeons.

There is a leveling system in place. You character has a character level used for fighting and you also have talent levels used to get skills. There are talents for various aspects of the game such as crafting and magic. You can read more about character progression on this blog post.

The one stand out that remains unanswered though is gameplay length - though I am not sure your question is well formed.
When you ask if its content driven and juxtaposing it to being finite, I assume you mean to compare open world games like fallout (only limited by the content - no fixed ending) to more linear experiences with bosses and a credits roll... correct?
Otherwise, please explain more, as I am curious about this stuff too :D

Still getting a "server not found" on those links of his, sadly.

But yes, I did mean a more open world experience by content driven design, although the main question here is how is the meta-game designed for the core game?

To be more blunt, I'm curious if the overall game will be a single-use experience or something you can come back to infinitely, while still having a meaning to do so and also remain fun no matter how long you play.

We posted at the same time. I believe Crea will be something you can come back to many times just like Minecraft and Terraria. Even without modding there will be several ways to play through the game and a decent amount of the content is generated meaning there is always something new. Also we will have multiple difficulty settings.

Yeah we did, good thing I get instant email notification a new reply pops up, so I'm aware.

After reading your replies I got a more clear idea what you're aiming for. It certainly will be a fun game for a playthrough or three, with occasionally coming back to check on new content made by either you or modders.

However, with a design like this I can see much of the content becoming obsolete as new ones are made, which means that unless the combat system is something very satisfying to play with, the lifeline of the game will pretty much hang on how long people will be willing to mod for it.

I'm also sad to hear about the game having a leveling and skill unlocking. Having such systems will just divert my attention as a gamer to focus on the arbitrary numbers running the game behind the curtains, rather than the surface of the game itself.

Tracking hard.

Some questions:

Does this feature a metagame and a persistent character that ties any generated worlds into a single cohesive experience?
Also does the player have a goal in this game of any kind?
Can you go to space?
How interactive are the environments? Is there weather?
Is there temperatures? Is there a fire system?
Can you collapse structures by breaking its supports?

Hey Reactorcore, glad to have your interest.

* Characters are not tied to a world unless the server says otherwise.
* We have a quest system planned and bosses to strive to beat. In other words, not yet but they're planned for release.
* No space. This is in a high fantasy setting. But that is not stopping someone from modding in space?
* We are still working on getting the core game implemented. Once that is in place we will be adding in a weather system and other events. Also fire.
* No you cannot collapse structures.
