Crash Bandicoot Returns was originally to be a simple mod for Crysis. But thanks to Crytek and its graphics engine, the CryEngine 3, it finally gives us the opportunity to develop a game in itself, totally free and for PC. CBR will be a sequel and not a remake of the series.

Hello to you all,

I have a lot of information to share today. But I do not speak anymore in my name alone, but on behalf of the entire development team. So we are 6 to work on the project, but only 3 really active yet. Anyway, here are the answers to your questions and information that I have promised.

For starters, here are the screens of the village of the indigenous of the island of N. Sanity Beach.

As you can see, this is an isolated area, but bigger than usual. The idea was to successfully integrate a new form of gameplay. It is a mix of straight and level at open. This adds a lot of opportunities in levels, without altering the side "corridor". In addition, it increases the interest of the game and to add extensions to increase the the lifetime.

Now Tracy! The new character in the series. It's a vixen adventurer looking for treasures of all kinds. She will meet Crash in some weird, but I let you the surprise. The character was created by Brithany-Tiger. You can follow her creation by this link : Brithany-tiger.deviantart.com

In terms of her character, rather she is "crazy" as Crash and loves to invent new things. She will assist our hero in certain levels in order to access areas that Crash can not reach. It could for example pick locks to open a new area to retrieve a hidden item. But do see just one example.

Regarding the script, I hesitated a long time about the establishment of the characters and purpose of the quest for Crash. So I wrote three versions. But after reading the stories of other episodes, I had to completely change the frame to stay within the logic of the series. The story then starts on the island of N. Sanity Beach Crash, Coco and Aku-Aku. All three are in search of the village of the natives. This is also there, they meet Tracy. Then we will have access to the Warp Room for a reason that you will discover when the mod will be online.

In any case, there will be Neo Cortex. There will also N. Gin, Tiny Tiger Uka-Uka. Anyway, the story is really worked and the quest for Crash will not rest only on the conquest of Cortex, but go further in the game world is almost direct result of the episode 4: "The Wrath of Cortex."
I want to meet a logical storyline that allows everyone to find winks compared to older episodes.

The level "Special". As I said earlier this month, I present to you the special level that is actually a level of "Crop Circles". It will be to find out through a maze. UFOs are somehow the bad guys of this level, but there will also tractors. But I reserve some surprises to the level that I hope will make you laugh. To advance, you will have a firefly that will follow you anywhere in the labyrinth.

Also, to Merhunes started working on another level. The level "Mount Olympus". Crash will have to make the ascent of the mountain gods of Greek mythology and rejoin the temple of Zeus.

Finally, I will answer most questions I get asked often.

- "When will the mod be released?
"

Officially, I do not know at all. But the output should be around late 2011 / early 2012. Rest assured, you will play before the end of the world, promise!

- "How many levels do you do for the mod?"

I thought long and hard for opportunities and it is not shortage of ideas. But still, I preferred to reduce the number seven levels:

- Level Prelude
- 5 levels of play
- Boss

I originally planned 30 levels, but we are not a video game company and we have constraints that there must be personal. So I opted for fewer levels, but more quality and duration per level. But if I have time later and the team also wishes, we will perhaps several other DLC to add levels to the Warp Room.

- "How long will the levels?"

20 to 25 minutes. This will depend of course the players and their interest. More you will try to complete levels and find the hidden items and the game will be long.

- "What PC do I need to play the mod?"

This is a rather delicate matter, but I would say a medium range PC will do. The mod is not developed in Very High, but High only. In addition, the levels are optimized, so do not worry. Unless you have a computer of 1995, you should be able to play without worry.

- "The mod will he published on consoles?"

I regret to say no. For copyright reasons and practicality. We develop the mod with the CE2, so we will not transfer to console, unless we do not transfer the mod on the CE3. Here, we could also develop console. But it remains to be seen. This is why I prefer to say no right away and you avoid disappointment.

That's all for this month. I would try to post the screens and items more regularly. However, in France, it is the school holidays, so some of us are not currently available, which slows the development of the project. It is for this reason Merhunes, Ciela and myself, each developing a different mod during the holidays. These two mods, "Hunter's Life," created by Merhunes and Ciela and "Dream Experimental 2", created by myself, come out soon on ModDB. You can already go to the page of Dream Experimental 2 through this link:

A 5870 is a much higher end card than a 6450, however I doubt it will have any problem playing it on medium.

That means nothing. I have a 6850 and i get some low frame rates sometimes when many things are happening, this happens if i play on highest settings.
The rule is not like: All 6xxx series are all better than 5xxx series and 4xxx series. No, its not like that.
Im not sure about this but i can say you can think like 6870 is more or less the same as a 4870 and 5870 but from different series (im not really sure about this but..)

What's up with the new character? Doesn't look like anyone from the Crash Bandicoot series. Looks like something out of friggin' Furricon.

Really, now? What's the problem of using Crash's sister or whatever?

Great stuff! Just wondering whether you are considering to go standalone with the title now that CryEngine 3 SDK is out. I think it may be easier to get new team members when the CE3 SDK community gets bigger.

Anyway, looking forward to the release this winter, keep it up guys! =)
