Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac." CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with
Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.

Our previous joint contest in 2013 produced 76 amazing new maps, so we're extrmely excited to see the submissions this year." said Chris Pipher, General Manager of CEVO.com.

"After the runaway success of last year’s competition, we at GameBanana are proud to once again be teaming up with the e-sports industry to deliver brand new, high quality maps for the competitive Counter-Strike gaming scene. Not only are there fantastic cash prizes again, but this contest also allows level designers a unique opportunity for their work to be played and critiqued by some of the world’s best players ” said Jon Higgins, VP Marketing & Research - GAMEBANANA.com.

The mouse keyboard players will win. Since most of the players aim like they have aimhacks or something and you die within a few seconds of seeing them o_0

not unless console kiddies get aim-assist. they've already done studies, btw...comparisons for other prospective cross platform games where the console players are typically demolished. it'll be very interesting to see how they tackle this issue, if they intend to.

Message to valve... LEARN HOW TO DEVELOP A NEW ENGINE!

Why are people stuck on this idea that a new engine will be better?

For one, it takes more than a few days to make an engine. There's tons of entities to be created, logic to be thought out, networking, rendering, audio, animation, physics, and far more things to make and bug test. A new engine would mean far more bugs and a extremely long wait.

Valve will continue to update the Source engine. This is best for you, me, Valve and everyone else. If they feel like making Source look jaw-dropping, they will. But they don't spend a lot of time on graphical features, that's Valve. They do what is necessary for them to feel as if there goals for a game have been reached. Not anything more.

Trust me, I would love for them to bring Source graphics up to BF3 or UDK levels. But it ain't going to happen until Valve decides it's what is best. Though I would just like a better SDK.

Its sort of sad when people like you seriously think, that valve´s games use source with it´s full strength.

They clearly CAN develop a new engine but they want. But they don't want. They want most players to be able to play Counter-Strike. That's the point of sticking with the Source engine.

I love Counter-Strike games, however this newest installment in the series adds nearly nothing new.All the gameplay mods had been already done before by modders in the previous titles. It did add new weapons, but at the time of launch they were really unbalanced.Since then, the game hasn't really changed all that much. There are positives though. The classic map layouts have been re-crafter in a way to provoke more balanced gameplay. The graphics are better too.The soundtrack and audio designe is…
