The initial idea of Counter-Strike 2D was to create a game which is pretty much like the original Counter-Strike game by Valve Software but which is 2D in a top-down persepective. This goal has been reached by implementing all original Counter-Strike weapons with their original sounds, by adding the well known hostage rescue (CS) and bomb defuse (DE) scenarios (+the VIP (AS) mode which has been removed from the original Counter-Strike already) and finally by creating 2D versions of the most popular Counter-Strike maps.
Everyone can download and play Counter-Strike 2D for free within a few minutes! You do not have to own any Valve game and you do not need to have Steam! Great fun, easy and fast access!
Counter-Strike 2D offers many additional items, game modes and features which do not exist in the original Counter-Strike. So it is actually much more than just a 2D version of Counter-Strike! When you start a game you can choose to make it a normal CS-like game or you can select another game mode like Construction, Zombies or Deathmatch! Crazy weapons like the portal gun, an airstrike, lasers, RPGs, grenade launchers and many more are included! Furthermore there is a very easy to use but yet powerful map editor which allows you to create your own maps. Therefore there are countless CS2D maps available on the internet! Still not enough? Write Lua scripts to extend and modify the game or use the existing scripts!
It came to my attention recently when i was thinking about the mod page that i was cluttering it a little too much with articles that only addressed one thing or with little information so instead of keeping those said articles i have decided to take the liberty of removing them and instead compacting them into the one news post. I can't say too much about development progress of the mod as it has been rather on the slow side but hopefully in the coming weeks i will probably have more content out sooner or later.
So what's the current progress of the mod and what content has already been completed? Well i'm glad you asked that. Currently two weapons have been implemented into the game so far. The German MP-44 and American M1918 BAR are working perfectly fine in game with sprite work for the MP-44 being completed and the BAR's sprite work almost fully completed apart from missing player hand models. I have included some screen shots bellow showing off the current weapon sprites.
Although i have glossed over weapons being implemented into the game it's not the final part of this news post. The first map for the mod has also been coming along rather well and if you are a Day of Defeat veteran it will not take you very long to notice that the map in question is DoD_Donner from version 1.3 of Day of Defeat. I have been painstakingly going back and forth with the development of the map to try and make it as accurate as possible and while the screenshots show some decent progress the map might be scrapped and developed again to make sure balance is perfect for both sides. Please do keep in mind the current screenshots are still a rather large work in progress with things like map details not accounted for yet.
I guess currently for now i can wrap up this news post for the time being. Another Announcement/news post will be made in due time when more content is ready to be available and shared so until then i can't really share anymore information on what the mod has planned and what content will be out next as i have no real idea myself.
