The Claiming Xodius map editor. Made because it would be difficult to build oblique maps using the built in Game Maker room editor. Note that the editor is a separate program from the game... but still made using game maker.
The Map editor saves all the maps as individual files and the game reads in the files to build maps. Other data generated by the editor is also written to files. The plan is to have the editor export all the files as a single zip file. The zip file will be placed in a designated directory made by the game (similar to the way minecraft mods are added). Then, in game, the player will be able to travel to the imported worlds... That is, if you've obtained Xodius
The Claiming Xodius game world was constructed using this editor
However, It currently isn't a very user friendly tool. So I'm in the process of redesigning the editor so that it is more intuitive and more flexible. It was previously lacking in some key feature; The ability to delete areas and maps has just been added.. and an undo function is on the way.
Map Editor Features
The Editor is used to place
-over 100 prefab objects
- Transfer objects (to traverse between maps)
- Spawn Points

- Bosses
- Chests
- Shops
- Text objects
- Music
- Map Effects (weather, inside, dark, etc.)
- AEvents (used to activate events made with the event editor. which is super flexible and will be shared later)
The map editor is used to control the levels of spawned characters and monsters. Users will also be able to import a worldmap image and designate where in the world their maps are located.
