What's New?

Alpha 4

Improvement Growth unlocked by Tech:

Now improvements will only begin to upgrade when you have researched the technology needed to build it.

Expensive Improvements:

It is now even harder to Improve the Wasteland as improvements are properly expensive! Hopefully there will be a lot less "I got too much money!" now.

Wasted Wasteland:

The Wasteland is now even more well... wastelandy... Less Ruins, Less Trees, and much more wasteland! It's brutal out there!

New Economics:

Bonus resources are now much more important, every building in the game is now boosted by having access to bonus resources, the more ya got the more ya get!
(this is still really early stage and will need additional 'Building Chains' to help take advantage of more resources and generally give you a more advanceable and tailorable {technical term} city economy. As well as the addition of more resources and also 'produced' resources.)

Vault Buildings:

Vaults now have their own set of buildings, so 'village' and 'vault' towns now produce there own kinds of building.
(Right now the general rule is that Vault buildings produce more of everything except culture and espionage, as they are more closed off from the world, Vault buildings also create more specialist slots.)

Vault Improvement:

You can now build an improvement on vaults, that also unlocks the ability to build certain buildings in your town (currently only 1 building, but we will add more eventually)

City Prereq Size for Units:

Now towns have to be a certain size to build units. (the better the unit the bigger the town size) This info can be accessed through the units pedia screen.

New Unit Graphics:

Lots of new unit graphics and faction specific art thanks to clanky.

Known Issues:

Starting location 'Vault' Bug:

Still haven't managed to get the vault starting map bug fixed. In order for the game to run properly you need to start a new game, let it load to after the DoM screen, then quit to main menu and start a new game, then the game works properly and factions that need it will start with a vault.

Hey does Civ 4 not like Vista? I used to play it, and LOVED it, on my old XP computer. THen I got a new computer with Vista, reinstalled, and it crashes whenever I try to start a game! It sucks cause I really want to get back on and play this game!

Does anyone know where to find some great mods for this? Google doesn't usually get the results I'm looking for. I was also after some scenarios. I think it would be great for some scenarios like the Cold War, the Vietnam War and the Colonization of the Americas.

You should go to CivFanatics if you actually care about Civ4 mods. There are quite a few active ones which haven't made it on here and the ones that are here don't get updated. There are a handful of very actively developed mods and several live projects that would benefit greatly from an infusion of new players and possibly new developers. The CivFanatics forum has a large list of hosted mods, plus tons of active developers with currently obscure projects competing for attention. Several mods add features and content to enhance the theme of the original game; others create entirely new worlds within that game, from space settings to Star Trek.

Warning: do NOT start playing Fall From Heaven 2 if you value having a social life or free time. It will consume your soul. Imagine Civilization in a fantasy world, with magic, orcs and elves and all that jazz. Now imagine tons of new major gameplay features - a magic system, in-game heroes, civ-specific gameplay mechanics that make the different civilizations play completely differently... All that only begins to describe the awesomeness of FFH. It has arguably more content than the vanilla game, and offers way more depth than an already deep and complex game. It's still in very active development, a forum with many active posters, weekly multiplayer games, even an active community of 'modmods' further modifying the game. All the best parts of civ gameplay plus tons of great new gameplay features add up to an even more addictive, engaging, replayable experience.
